Another sleep recommendation and easy to remind!
- Crib mattress should be firm (you won’t be able to push too much when pressing with your fingers)
- Sleeping surface shouldn’t be inclined (unless you get a specific medical recommendation for it - and if so, it shouldn’t be over 30 degrees)
- The sheet should be fitted (to reduce the suffocation risk)
- The crib should be empty - no fluffy toy, no cushion, no pillow, your baby and that’s it (again less risk of suffocation)

Any question or doubt? I’m always here for you!😊

Sleep nests look cozy and cute but please please please, try not to use them as a sleep location…

American Academy of Pediatrics warns against them as they represent a risk or entrapment and suffocation for your tiny ones. The bottom and sides are indeed too soft.

Sleep nests are very popular in many countries, but it doesn’t mean because you can buy it, it’s safe.

Keep in mind that sleeping surface should be flat, firm, not inclined and with a fitted sheet.

There are many sources for that but here is one from the AAP:

Sleep is safer when the risk of suffocation and entrapment is reduced.
Sleepsacks are the safest option, therefore the AAP recommends them.
Putting your babies in a sleep sack will make sure they’re warm enough and safe.
Hesitating which warmth (They’re classified using TOGs), refer to the dedicated post here ☺️

Always put your babies on their back in bed!

Why? Because it’s been shown it helps reduce the risk of SIDS. It is that simple.

While on their belly for sleeping, the risk of suffocation is too high (your baby will exhale CO2 and inhale it once again), no one wants to take the chance.
If out on their side, the risk of rolling to the belly is high, so back is safer!

Tummy time is highly important, but not during naps or nights.

Ideal bedroom or sleep location for your little one? 3 things to remember 😉
- The darker the better! From the 4th month, your baby is producing melatonin so a dark room will help promote good and restful sleep
- Quiet, because who likes to sleep in a noisy environment?
- Fresh because it’s safer and better for a good sleep (you then just adapt the way you dress your child for sleeping!)

The Gentle Sleep Coach Program is the first and most extensive professional sleep coach training and certification program available to teach gentle sleep strategies.

The program involves over 8️⃣0️⃣hours of training with a faculty panel that includes medical doctors, a psychologist, an attorney, lactation counselor, postpartum doulas and a family therapist.
Some of the training topics included:
🔹Basic counseling and child development.
🔹Sleep science and behavioral modification techniques to help parents of children age 0 to 6 years old.
🔹Secure attachment theory.
🔹Support for the breastfeeding mother.

The training also consisted of lectures from top specialists, including:
🎓Postpartum Depression from Dr. Shoshana Bennett, author and leading specialist on Postpartum Depression.
🎓Medical Conditions and Sleep Apnea in Children led by Dr. Lewis Kass, Director of Children’s Sleep Center.
🎓GERD and Sleep led by Dr. Anthony Loizides, pediatric gastroenterologist.

📝Each coach must pass an exam and participate in case supervision with Kim West, LCSW-C (a.k.a. “the Sleep Lady”) who has been helping tired parents for over 20 years.

📚And once you're a certified Gentle Sleep Coach, clinical supervision and ongoing advanced training are required to maintain your certification.

Yes, GSC take your children's sleep seriously!

❗️Unless someone is personally selected and trained by Kim West, they cannot claim they're Gentle Sleep Coaches.

I often get asked « when should we move our child to a big bed? »
I usually say the later the better.
