Choral singers this one is for you! A Rundfunkchor, or Radio Chorus, is a full-time salaried choral position. If you love singing in ensembles, have a knack for a variety of styles, are an excellent sight reader, and speak German, you should definitely consider these audition opportunities when they pop up from time to time.

It’s rare to find a soprano aria that could work for just about ANY type of soprano, but I think this stunner from Paganini could serve as a great showpiece for most sopranos, but in particular the fuller lyric, spinto and even dramatic sopranos (with a great top). Give it a listen, I am positive you’re going to want to add this to your repertoire.

As we continue our deep dive into lesser known German opera and operetta through Sing This…Not That, I realized that a fair number of these composers are either ignored or skipped over in most music history courses. The music speaks for itself, and their contributions to the repertoire are undoubtedly worth learning about as we explore more of this fantastic repertoire.

Musical Theater has a long and impressive history in Germany. Many Broadway and West End musicals have found success in German translations and there is a very active German language musical theater scene for the creation of original works. Berlin, Stuttgart and Hamburg are the main hubs for these large scale productions, but musicals are FREQUENTLY programmed alongside operetta and opera at many German opera houses, especially in regional theaters that produce multi-genre work and maintain acting and dance ensembles in addition to opera and orchestral ensembles.
