🔬 New insights into recurrent pregnancy loss and antiphospholipid antibodies Two recent studies published in Biomedicines provide new insights into the potential role of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in women with recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL).

In the first study, an extended aPL profile was investigated in women with RPL. The researchers observed significant associations for anti-prothrombin, anti-annexin V and anti-β2-glycoprotein I (β2GPI) antibodies, highlighting the potential value of looking beyond established antibody profiles in research on unexplained RPL.

A subsequent study went one step further and explored a possible molecular link between aPL and endometrial receptivity. The findings point toward an association between anti-β2GPI antibodies and reduced endometrial HAND2 expression providing an interesting starting point for further research into immune-mediated mechanisms at the maternal–fetal interface.
We are pleased that in both studies; antiphospholipid antibodies were analyzed using the Anti-Phospholipid 10 Dot from GA Generic Assays.

These exploratory findings underline the importance of continued research into extended antiphospholipid antibody profiles and their potential biological relevance in reproductive medicine.

How do the 2022 ACR/EULAR classification criteria improve the classification of ANCA-associated vasculitis? 🩸🔬

The 2022 ACR/EULAR classification criteria provide a more standardized and evidence-based framework for classifying ANCA-associated vasculitis ( ). By integrating clinical, laboratory, imaging, and histopathological findings, they support a more consistent distinction between granulomatosis with polyangiitis ( ), microscopic polyangiitis ( ), and eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis ( ).

As laboratory diagnostics play a central role in the classification process, understanding the significance of PR3-ANCA, MPO-ANCA, and other key biomarkers is essential.

Key topics covered:
• The laboratory markers behind the 2022 ACR/EULAR classification criteria
• The key differences between GPA, MPA, and EGPA
• Current EULAR recommendations for ANCA antibody testing
• The role of integrated IVD solutions in autoimmune diagnostics

June 29 is World Scleroderma Day 🌍

Scleroderma, also known as systemic sclerosis, is a rare autoimmune disease that can have a profound impact on daily life. It is characterized by the hardening and tightening of the skin and connective tissue and may also affect internal organs such as the lungs, heart, lungs, kidneys, and digestive system.

Because symptoms can vary significantly from patient to patient, diagnosis is often complex and may take time. Early recognition is essential, however, to help prevent irreversible organ damage and improve long-term outcomes.

A comprehensive diagnostic approach typically combines several methods, including:
• Clinical evaluation of skin changes and symptoms such as Raynaud’s phenomenon
• Autoantibody testing (e.g. ANA, Scl-70, CENP-A/CENP-B, RNA Polymerase III, PM/Scl)
• Indirect immunofluorescence (IFA) on HEp-2 cells as a sensitive screening tool
• Immunoblot and other assays to support disease differentiation
• Functional and imaging-based assessments to evaluate potential organ involvement

Each method contributes a different piece of the diagnostic puzzle - together they enable a more complete clinical picture 🧩

Scientific congresses do more than showcase new research: they often provide a valuable glimpse into the trends that will shape the future of diagnostics and clinical decision-making.

At 15th International Congress on 2026, discussions around AI-supported ANA interpretation, ongoing standardization initiatives, novel biomarker discovery, and disease-specific advances clearly demonstrated how autoimmune diagnostics is steadily evolving toward greater precision, reproducibility, and clinical relevance. Across sessions, a common theme emerged: the integration of digital tools, improved assay harmonization, and deeper biological insights is increasingly bridging the gap between laboratory data and patient care.💎

To capture these developments, our team has summarized the key scientific takeaways and their potential implications for laboratories, clinicians, and patients in a new article.

🔬 New International Consensus on Ro Autoantibody Nomenclature
A new international consensus has proposed updated and standardized terminology for the historically confusing “SSA/Ro” autoantibodies.
After a global expert consensus process, the use of the term SSA (Sjögren syndrome antigen A) is no longer recommended. Instead, the following nomenclature should be used:

Ro60 ➡️anti-TROVE2
Ro52 ➡️anti-TRIM21

Although these autoantibodies are often reported together, they target distinct antigens with different biological functions and clinical associations.

📌 anti-TROVE2 / Ro60
• Primarily associated with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Sjögren’s Disease (SjD)
• Involved in RNA quality control
• Localized in both nucleus and cytoplasm

📌 anti-TRIM21 / Ro52
• Found across a broader spectrum of autoimmune diseases, including SLE, Sjögren’s Disease, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, inflammatory myopathies, systemic sclerosis, and interstitial lung disease
• Plays a key role in innate immunity, interferon regulation, and apoptosis
• Detected in up to 60–75% of patients with Sjögren’s Disease

The adoption of this updated nomenclature represents an important step toward greater scientific clarity, improved diagnostic precision, and harmonized reporting across laboratories, clinical practice, and research.
