What do you picture when thinking about Brazil? Some people think about carnivals and passionate samba; for some, Brazil is one of the world's strongest national football teams and others imagine the freshly roasted coffee beans. But for us, since recently, Brazil is strongly associated with ... cowboys 🤠! Yes, the real hard-working men with ten-gallon hats and stern looks.

And the reason for that change in perception is Joao Prates and his online store of artistic photography www.joaoprates.com, which we developed in collaboration with Taissia Visser. To fulfil the vision of our client we had to customize the standard Woocommerce templates quite a bit. We changed the style of the registration page, adjusted the product filter widget and changed the variable product's layout. But the result was worth the effort and we truly enjoyed working with Joao Prates 😌!

This time we would like to tell you not about our new work, even though kenjestadmaakjestad.nl/ turned out really nice, but about the project itself. Thanks to our long-term partnership with the WOAU studio, we were lucky to contribute to an exciting socio-cultural project - "Know your city, make your city!" (in dutch Ken je stad maak je stad).

This project is initiated by Ellen Schindler - the partner and CEO of De Zwarte Hond - a design agency for architecture, urban design and strategy.

The project's goal is not only to foster interest in architecture and urban planning among citizens but to show how every resident can influence the development of his own street, neighbourhood, city. The project is designed for a year, the outcome of which will be a cartoon and a graphic novel. And it won't be only available in bookstores, but all first graders in Rotterdam will also receive this book free of charge as a study guide at the beginning of the 2022/2023 school year.

This project brought together an amazing multidisciplinary team: historians, urban designers, architects, storytellers, education experts, graphic designers, copywriters, illustrators, filmmakers, photographers and publishers. And it's been our pleasure to join the project and to work hand in hand with Ellen Schindler and Léon Kranenburg.

OUTPOST WORKSHOP SERIES : The SEED Team are delighted to be co-hosting The Outpost Workshop Series and we would like to formally invite you to join us for a day or for a full 4 day program in presence or remotely: https://moongallery.stager.nl/MoonGallery/tickets

It has been over twenty years since Earth last had all its humans on it. Despite this, space is still mostly inaccessible to the more than 7.5 billion humans who still live on Earth.

The upcoming Outpost workshops will take its participants to the future, where space is open to everyone and today’s space junk is turned into new space stations: the pillars of sustainable space exploration. Outposts will be factories, asteroid mining stations, fuel depots, observatories, or even gardens, libraries and art galleries.

The Outpost workshop series will provide a platform for critical discussions about humanity as a future interplanetary society. The event will take place at PLNT - Leiden Centern ( ) for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The event will conclude with the weather balloon launch to symbolically implement the concepts developed during the workshop sessions. Launch date to be announced soon!

Our team has always been drawn to the idea of exploring energies, space, science and how art and culture can be incorporated to create new ventures.
Thus, The International Day of Light a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy motivated us to honour this celebration and its key goals.
The International Day of Light is celebrated on 16 May each year, the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman.
Raising awareness that technologies and design can play an important role in the achievement of greater energy efficiency, in particular by limiting energy waste, and in the reduction of light pollution, s key to the preservation of dark skies.
This day is a call to strengthen scientific cooperation and harness its potential to foster peace and sustainable development.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT - In 1970, Earth Day came forth to provide a voice to the emerging environmental consciousness and to put forth environmental concerns among the people. In 2021, we are witnessing monumental changes to the balance of the natural world and how the human world, responsible for these changes, is responding.
Each person decides on his own how to celebrate this holiday: plant a tree, collect garbage, leave the car in a parking lot and travel by public transport, hang a birdhouse or just read a book about nature to his children...
The SEED Team has always taken a great interest in creating a sustainable Earth and we are trying to establish our practice accordingly by looking into small but concrete change towards a healthier planet.
At the heart of this motivation and energy lies a powerful shift in mindset. We encourage our team and clients to come up with creative, hopeful, transformative solutions that are built upon the principles of
sustainability and restoration. These principles require moving away from an extractive mindset – that is, taking as much as you can from the Earth to turn a quick profit. Instead, the goal is what’s in the best, long-term interest of all of us, the human and non-human communities that
share our planet.
The new approach is to respect nature and learns from nature. The idea is to stay hopeful, inspired by nature’s capacity for renewal when given the necessary freedom and opportunity.

Creative professionals generally have a very particular vision of their online communication channels. And to have full control over the result, they often prefer to personally manage their online presence. Nowadays, there are plenty of web builders and pre-made themes that can help to develop a good-looking functional website. Those solutions work well if you need only standard layouts or don't care much about the details. But creatives, especially designers, are people who professionally trained to care about details! So we often see how a tool that was meant to be handy and easy to use turns into a long-lasting hassle.

We treat with great respect the creativity of all our clients and do our best to embody their vision into the appearance of the website. Even when we have to customize a ready-made WordPress theme, as in the case of Federico Pazienza Studio.

In the end, by our joint efforts, it became a really neat elegant website, which in the best way represents the beautiful works of Federico. The website is now also integrated with the WooCommerse webshop plugin - so - so you not only can enjoy watching but also purchase some of Federico's work! Go and check out the https://www.federicopazienza.com/ - maybe there would be something that catches your eye. And well done Federico - it's right about time for all artists to extend their online portfolios with the sales functionality!

Men build too many walls and not enough bridges.
Joseph Fort Newton

Once again Moon Gallery( ) becomes an inspiration for the SEED Team and together we ascend into a futuristic journey, trying to imagine ourselves in 2025 when the precious collection of the artefacts has already landed on the Moon. A symbolic bridge in the centre of Leiden will connect two scenes - The Field and the Innovation Center( ). The Field will represent the Earth displaying the prototypes, demos and posters explaining the stories behind the artworks. While the Innovation Center will symbolize the Moon, showing the lander and the mini cubes.

We hope that you will join us on this futuristic journey connecting the Earth and Moon. We invite you to explore with us how to build “The Bridge” through art by joining us virtually via youtu.be/bS9jQ9d3X1o .

When making a website-presentation for a creative project, the design simply cannot be typical or template-based - it has to be unique. This requires a deep immersion in the essence of the project and the development of a design that not only meets the aesthetic taste of a client but also creates the right impression of the project for the user.

In the case of the https://www.alivetextiles.com/ website, which introduces the visitor to a fantastic project by Studio Samira Boon (STUDIO SAMIRA BOON) in collaboration with VU Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam Summer School) and Waag (Waag), there were no complicated technical decisions. That gave us the liberty to be more playful than usual and use the generative pattern background on canvas. This pattern imitates the growth of "Alive Textiles", making the website dynamic and ... alive.
Like any other living organism, our generative pattern not always behaves how we expect it - especially at the beginning, it was constantly misbehaving and invading the whole screen. Eventually, our programmers had to domesticate it a little bit!
