🔶I'm glad to share that I recently delivered a two-day workshop at Ain Shams University, hosted by the Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Engineering —

marking the beginning of a new series on Heritage × Academia × Design.

🗓 Workshop Title: Mixed-Use Developments – Balancing Functionality and Cultural Heritage

📍 Delivered by: Associate Professor Hanaa Moosa, Founder of Rithu – Heritage Conservation Consultancy

📅 Dates: Day 1 – March 19, 2025 | Day 2 – April 12, 2025
This two-day workshop immersed students in the complexities of designing within heritage contexts—where architecture meets cultural meaning and sustainable function.

🌿The workshop explored how design can act as a bridge between cultural heritage and contemporary urban needs. Students engaged deeply with:

✔️ Contextual studies and heritage value mapping
✔️ Integration of local crafts, tourism, and social infrastructure
✔️ Design development combining public, residential, and cultural functions
✔️ Conceptual proposals focused on Historic Cairo

The goal was to encourage students to see design not just as form-making, but as a practice of cultural continuity and regeneration.

Rithu (رثوا) – Inherit Your Heritage 🔹

The word Rithu (رثوا) is an imperative verb in Arabic, meaning "inherit." It carries a call to action—urging us to inherit, conserve, and pass on our cultural heritage.

At Rithu Heritage Conservation Consultancy, we believe that heritage is not just about the past; it is a living legacy that shapes our future. By understanding, conserving, and adapting our heritage, we ensure that its value continues to inspire generations to come.

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to all the faculty members, assistants, and students of the Architecture Department at the 10th of Ramadan Institute for Engineering and Technology. Today wasn’t just an academic day; it was a day filled with knowledge, effort, and love. I truly felt the spirit of one family.

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be part, even if a small one, of this wonderful day. Thank you for the amazing atmosphere, the valuable knowledge, and the outstanding organization. Words cannot express how happy I was today.

When I started my lecture, I didn’t even introduce myself to the students and attendees because I felt so at home. Perhaps it’s due to my long-standing friendship with Dr. Ghada Assal, which gave me the chance to know the team personally. But the warmth and sense of belonging I felt in the general atmosphere only strengthened this feeling.

Special thanks to Dr. Mohamed Ragab, Head of the Department, for the lovely invitation, and to Dr. Maysaa for the excellent organization, as well as Dr. Omnia and everyone who contributed to making this day so special. It wouldn’t have been the same without the incredible efforts and positive spirit.

I am truly honored to be invited to deliver a lecture titled "Conserving Our Future: Passing Down Tangible and Intangible Heritage to Future Generations" at the Higher Technological Institute in the 10th of Ramadan City.

This lecture is part of the Department of Architecture's Scientific Day, taking place on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

As an architect and researcher dedicated to heritage conservation, urban regeneration, and sustainability, I deeply value opportunities to engage with future architects and professionals. Together, we can explore how to preserve our rich history while envisioning a sustainable future for generations to come.

As Founder and CEO, Hanaa Moosa was honored to deliver a lecture on *Khedivial Cairo* at Biet Al Meemar last Saturday. The lecture examined the interdisciplinary developments in Egypt over the past 150 years, focusing on both tangible and intangible cultural elements that shaped the nation's artistic landscape.

A central topic was the Khedivial Cairo Opera House, an iconic institution that tragically was destroyed by fire in 1871. The Opera House was home to the first modern stage of its kind in Egypt, alongside pioneering music institutes and even an early radio station. This period marked a time of creative freedom, where Western instruments were adapted to the Oriental style, and Egypt solidified its place as a hub of artistic innovation.

Legends like Mohamed Abdelwahab and Umm Kulthum further exemplified the country's lasting impact on music and culture, influences that continue to resonate globally.

This week, Hanaa Moosa, our founder and CEO, had the privilege of delivering two engaging lectures to the second-year Landscape Architecture students at Ain Shams University. We extend our sincere gratitude to Professor Mohammed AL Fayoumy for the invitation.

In her first lecture, titled "Bridging Disciplines: An Interdisciplinary Exploration of Zamalek's Cultural Future on the Nile," Hanaa emphasized the significance of interdisciplinary approaches in enhancing site analysis and project concepts.

Her second lecture, "Water in Architecture: Blending Beauty, Meaning, and Practicality," explored the multifaceted roles of water in architecture, from its symbolism to its practical applications and impact on user interaction.

Hanaa's dedication to sharing knowledge and inspiring the next generation of landscape architects truly reflects her passion for the field.
