In 1988 Dr Sami Angawi founded the center as a private insitution, and the first building developed was Amar Center location in Jeddah. The center activities include the following:
1- Architectural designs, planning & conservation
2- Revival & development of traditional Urban & architectural heritage through research & studies, & their relation to environmental & socio-economic factors
3- Restorat
ion & rehabilitation of traditional Urban Fabrics & buildings
4- Documentation of traditional architecture & analyzing its elements
5- traditional arts & crafts
6- Planning & designing new Projects & buildings based on the continuity of the traditional architectural & urban fabrics from all aspects
أسس الدكتور/ سامي عنقاوي بجدة مركز عمار كمؤسسة خاصة وكان أول مبنى تم تطويره هو مقر المركز بجدة التاريخية، وتتضمن أنشطة المركز ما يلي
التصميمات المعمارية، والتخطيط والحفاظ على المباني القديمة وتطويرها
إجراء الأبحاث والدراسات لإحياء وتطوير التراث العمراني المعماري وربطه بالعوامل البيئية والاجتماعية والإقتصادية
إعادة تأهيل وترميم للمباني والنسيج العمراني
توثيق العمارة التراثية وتحليل عناصرها
الحرف والصناعات التقليدية
تخطيط وتصميم المشرعات والمباني الجديدة ارتكازاً على استمرارية النسيج المعماري التقليدي والنسيج العمراني بكل توجهاته
