🚀 Driving Sustainable Innovation: Proud to share our engineering project (Agro-Solar Energy Hub) ☀️🌱
In line with the global shift towards sustainability and carbon footprint reduction, our team has successfully designed and developed a fully automated, smart greenhouse powered entirely by an autonomous Off-Grid Solar System.
As the engineer responsible for the core of this system—the Renewable Energy System & Electrical Components—my focus was on meticulous calculation and component selection to achieve maximum reliability with optimal cost-effectiveness (Cost-Effective & High Reliability design).
💡 Key Engineering & Design Highlights:
1️⃣ System Sizing & Load Analysis: Based on careful calculations, our Peak Load was determined to be 241.6W. To accommodate system losses and ensure real-time operation while concurrently charging the battery bank, a 335W Monocrystalline Solar Panel was selected, providing a robust 38% Safety Margin.
2️⃣ Optimized Battery Bank Storage: We integrated a 28Ah Deep Cycle battery. This capacity was engineered and precisely tailored to sustain the Night Load (controllers, sensors, and essential ventilation) without unnecessary over-sizing, keeping the project budget highly optimized.
3️⃣ Charge Control & Power Inversion: A 30A PWM Charge Controller was selected for voltage compatibility, paired with a 1000W Inverter (12V DC to 220V AC) to easily handle the high Surge Currents generated during the initial startup of the ventilation fans and heating elements.
4️⃣ Advanced Protection & Control Automation: To handle the high-humidity greenhouse environment safely, we bypassed traditional mechanical relays in favor of Solid State Relays (SSR), completely eliminating electrical arcing. The entire network is fully protected against overloads and short circuits using miniature circuit breakers (MCB).
This project goes beyond theoretical concepts; it is a practical, scalable solution engineered to advance smart agriculture and clean energy deployment in remote and off-grid locations.
A huge thank you to our esteemed professors, mentors, and my incredible teammates for their invaluable guidance and dedication in bringing this project to life.
