We finally had a long weekend to spend a little time working on our own home for a change.

So much of our time is spent helping clients find properties, coordinating renovations and turning houses into homes that our own projects often have to wait.

Ian has been insulating the ceiling of our naya to make it more comfortable to use throughout the year, apart from the really hot summer months. I’ve started staining the beams, with the ceiling and walls still on my painting to-do list.

We also managed to add a few finishing touches to our ensuite.

It’s nice to make progress on our own home for a change. After all, we know just how much the details matter.

Before we recommend a contractor to our clients, we like to do our homework.

Today we took our clients to a property currently being renovated by a contractor we’re considering for their own project.

It gave them the opportunity to look at the quality and finish of his work and decide for themselves whether they felt comfortable moving forward.

That’s an important part of how we work. When you’re investing in a renovation from another country, it’s not always easy to know who to trust or what questions to ask. Our job is to help our clients make those decisions with confidence, rather than simply telling them who we think they should use.

We’re there to look after their interests, check the details and help make sure the right decisions are being made throughout the project.

And the view from this particular property wasn’t bad either.

We’ve been a little quiet on here lately. We’ve been taking some time away, spending time with family and friends and enjoying a change of scenery. It’s been lovely, but after the NFL game tomorrow, we will be heading home to Spain and getting back to work.

There’s already plenty happening behind the scenes, with property searches, client projects and lots to look forward to over the coming weeks.

We love being able to take some time away, but we also love going home.

So once the game is over, it’s back to Spain and back to helping people make their move to Spain a reality.

We’ve missed this.

Living in Spain has so many advantages, but one thing we really miss is the NFL.

So when the opportunity came up to see Ian’s team, the Washington Commanders, playing in London, there was never much doubt that we’d be going.

A weekend in London, a few days away and, most importantly, some live NFL.

It’s been a lovely excuse to come back to the UK for a few days and do something we both really enjoy.

Now we just need the Commanders to make it worth the trip.

Buying a home in Spain is one thing. Looking after it when you’re not there is another.

Last weekend, one of our clients had a major roof leak that flooded their property. It happened again this week, and we’ve been on the ground checking the property every few days, arranging contractors and managing what needs to happen next.

When you’re hundreds or thousands of miles away, having someone you trust on the ground can make all the difference.

Because looking after your Spanish home isn’t just about emergencies. It’s about knowing someone is there when you can’t be.

You don’t have to be in Spain to keep things moving. This morning, we were at a client’s property meeting with contractors, discussing the work that needs to be done and making sure everything is moving in the right direction.

It’s the sort of thing that can be difficult to manage when you’re not in Spain yourself.

Having someone you trust on the ground means you don’t have to be there for every meeting, every delivery or every unexpected issue.

That’s part of what House to Home is about: being there when you can’t be.
