A retirement withdrawal deserves a tax conversation before the instruction goes through.

Living in Spain can add cross-border questions to a decision involving a retirement account. The type of plan, your circumstances and the applicable rules matter; one person’s treatment is not a reliable guide for everyone else.

Bring the plan documents, withdrawal proposal and relevant earlier returns to your tax adviser. Review the U.S. and Spanish questions together rather than assuming a withdrawal will simplify reporting.

US TAX CONSULTANTS supports clients with U.S. and Spanish tax preparation. Arrange a discussion before acting on a planned withdrawal.

No interest is not the same as no reporting question.

FBAR looks at qualifying foreign financial accounts and their aggregate value—not just the income they produce. Generally, a U.S. person with a financial interest in or qualifying authority over foreign accounts must file when their combined value exceeds $10,000 at any time during the year, subject to applicable exceptions.

Do not leave an account out of your review simply because it paid nothing. US TAX CONSULTANTS assists with FBAR preparation. Include any overlooked account in the information you discuss with your preparer.

The label on your investment does not tell the whole U.S. tax story.

Some foreign investments can raise PFIC questions and possible Form 8621 reporting. The answer depends on the investment and your circumstances—not simply on the country where your bank is located.

Swipe through six questions to organize the records for a meaningful review, from product documents to earlier filings.

US TAX CONSULTANTS helps clients address cross-border information as part of their U.S. tax preparation. Ask your preparer which investment records are missing before deciding how an item should be reported.

A permit to live in Spain is not the same as a tax-residence determination.

Spain’s rules consider facts including time spent in the country and the location of economic interests. Other rules and treaty provisions may also matter in an individual case.

Keep a clear record of your move, travel dates and ongoing connections. That gives your adviser a stronger starting point than an immigration document alone.

US TAX CONSULTANTS works with clients navigating U.S. and Spanish tax obligations. Save this reminder and bring your relocation timeline to your consultation.

Happy National Day of Spain to everyone celebrating today!

At US TAX CONSULTANTS, we are proud to support Americans who call Spain home. As you enjoy October 12, keep one important date in view this week: October 15.

For calendar-year taxpayers with a valid extension, October 15, 2026 is generally the extended deadline for the 2025 U.S. federal income tax return. Special relief or other extensions may change the date in individual cases. An extension to file does not itself extend the payment deadline.

Is anything still missing from your return? Check with your preparer about outstanding information or authorizations so you know your next step.

Tax preparation is personal. Knowing the team matters.

In September, US TAX CONSULTANTS announced that Ana Poveda and Juan Santos had joined the team from Florida, bringing experience in individual tax preparation.

For clients managing U.S. responsibilities while living in Spain, understanding who will handle the work is a useful part of choosing professional support.

Meet our team on the website and ask who would be responsible for your engagement, what the scope includes, and how you will communicate.

The balance is only one part of an account record.

For your FBAR preparation, review the account holder’s name, account number, institution name and address, account type, and maximum value. A missing identifier can leave questions even when you have gathered the balances.

US TAX CONSULTANTS helps clients prepare their foreign-account information. Reporting requirements depend on your circumstances.

Request unclear details from the institution, then provide them through the agreed secure channel. Never share account numbers in comments or social messages.

A Spanish tax election deserves a two-country conversation.

Before considering the Beckham regime, bring your work arrangements, income sources, assets, and U.S. responsibilities into the same review. Eligibility alone does not establish whether an election fits your circumstances.

Swipe through six questions to prepare for that discussion. US TAX CONSULTANTS’ September article explains why Spain–U.S. planning matters before relocation.

Bring these questions to your pre-move consultation. This is general information, not an individual eligibility assessment.

An accepted return is not a refund promise.

Electronic filing and refund processing are separate stages. Keep the confirmation for your records and use the IRS Where’s My Refund tool to follow any refund due to you.

Our blog shares a client’s e-filing experience, but another person’s timing is not a guarantee for your return. Processing varies.

With US TAX CONSULTANTS, ask about the status of your filing—not just when money might arrive. Read our e-filing article for context, and keep your confirmation accessible.

A document request is not a filing deadline.

Your preparer’s document-submission date leaves room to review records and resolve questions. The statutory filing deadline serves a different purpose. Meeting one does not automatically mean the other has been met.

US TAX CONSULTANTS’ annual tax calendar helps clients distinguish these dates and coordinate their U.S. and Spanish information. Applicable deadlines and extensions depend on your circumstances.

Before marking your tax file complete, confirm both dates with your preparer—and ask what information is still outstanding.
