Today I took part in a Nervous System Regulation session where we did a combination of breathwork, progressive body relaxation and techniques that bring you from a state of overwhelm back to the safe zone. One of the exercises helped us to become fully aware of what was going on around us and also within ourselves and finally let us feel calm and relaxed.
And as today is World Mindfulness Day, I thought I’d share my favorite mindfulness rituals.
If you wonder what it’s all about - mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
It isn't just a practice; it's a journey. A journey of growth, of aligning with our true selves, and of celebrating the now. It's about taking a pause from the past and the future and just being in the present. And the benefits? They're real. Science backs it up. Mindfulness reduces stress and increases happiness.
So, how can we make mindfulness a part of our daily lives?
✨ Morning Check-in: Every morning is a new beginning. Before diving into the day, ask: How do I feel? What's on my mind? It's more than just assessing your energy; it's about understanding your emotions and thoughts. A moment to align with yourself, setting your day's tone.
✨ Engage Your Senses: Life is bursting with sensations. Yet, we often overlook them. Our senses connect us to the world. Remember the simple joy of hearing birds or feeling the breeze? Each meal is a flavor journey. These moments anchor us, making life richer. Next time you're outside or eating, truly experience it. Celebrate life's nuances.
✨ Mindful Waiting: Waiting can be frustrating. But what if we saw it as an opportunity? Instead of scrolling on phones, observe. Hear a child's laughter, see shared smiles. These moments become mindfulness pockets. It's about cherishing the pauses, finding meaning even in waits.
On this World Mindfulness Day, I invite you to step out of the routine and take action. Embrace the opportunities that mindfulness offers. And remember, every moment is a chance to reflect, to believe, and to empower ourselves.
How will you embrace the beauty of the present moment today? Share your personal mindfulness rituals with us.
