AI transparency rules are already in force in the European Union. What does that mean for businesses?

On July 20, the European Commission published guidelines explaining the transparency obligations established under Article 50 of the EU AI Act.

These rules started applying on August 2, 2026 and address several situations businesses need to understand — from informing people when they are interacting with AI to marking certain AI-generated content, disclosing deepfakes and providing transparency around certain biometric and emotion-recognition systems.

There is also a significant compliance consideration: fines can reach €15 million or 3% of worldwide annual turnover, subject to proportionality for SMEs and small mid-cap companies.

A limited transition applies until December 2, 2026 to certain marking and detection requirements for generative AI systems already placed on the market before August 2.

For companies operating internationally, this is a reminder that AI adoption increasingly comes with transparency and governance responsibilities.

What happens after an M&A deal is signed can be just as important as the deal itself.

The headline may be about the acquisition. But behind the scenes, companies still have to navigate tax, debt, governance, culture and integration.

That’s where much of the real value — or risk — can emerge.

Which of these factors do you think deserves more attention in an M&A transaction?

📊 GAAP vs IFRS: What Every Business Leader Should Know
Two accounting frameworks. Two different approaches. One critical question: Which one applies to your business?

🇺🇸 GAAP (US Standard):
• Rules-based—tells you exactly what to do
• Required for US companies
• Detailed guidance for specific scenarios

🌍 IFRS (Global Standard):
• Principles-based—requires professional judgment
• Used in 140+ countries
• Flexible application across industries

Why it matters: If you operate internationally, you might need BOTH.
✅ US subsidiaries reporting under GAAP
✅ Parent companies consolidating under IFRS
✅ M&A requiring conversion between standards

Key difference example:
Inventory accounting
• GAAP allows LIFO method
• IFRS prohibits LIFO

This single rule can change your financial statements and tax position significantly.

Can tax policy drive smarter capital allocation?
Yesterday, we explored how companies are adapting their financial strategies to a world where currency volatility may no longer be a short-term challenge.

Today, we continue that conversation from another angle: the relationship between tax policy, corporate strategy and capital allocation.

Japan is considering a tax measure that could encourage companies to sell non-core businesses and reinvest in strategic acquisitions.

The proposal is specific to Japan—but the question it raises is much broader:
Can tax incentives encourage companies to make smarter strategic decisions?

💱 What happens when currency volatility stops looking temporary?

For internationally active businesses, exchange-rate movements can affect much more than the numbers on a financial statement.

They can influence import costs, pricing, margins, cash flow and forecasting.

A recent Reuters report highlights how Japanese companies are adapting to prolonged yen weakness by using longer-term supplier agreements and expanding their use of currency-hedging instruments.

The broader lesson?
When currency dynamics change, financial risk-management strategies may need to change with them.

💬 Is a short-term approach enough when currency volatility becomes a long-term challenge?

AI is changing the cyber landscape—making attacks more sophisticated, while also giving businesses new tools to detect and respond to threats.

And the risk goes far beyond stolen data.
A cyber incident can affect:
🔹 Operations
🔹 Revenue
🔹 Business continuity
🔹 Reputation
🔹 Third-party relationships

That is why cybersecurity increasingly belongs in the business risk conversation.

Reporting tells the story. Strategy changes it.

Yesterday, we explored the difference between ESG Reporting and ESG Strategy.

Today, we take the conversation one step further: what happens when the information we report actually influences business decisions?

Because reporting is not the destination. It is the starting point for better decisions.

When sustainability information becomes part of strategic planning, risk management and resource allocation, it can move from disclosure to meaningful business action.

💬 What do you think? How can businesses turn sustainability information into better decisions?
