Ruinart was founded by Nicolas Ruinart, the nephew of Dom Thierry Ruinart who was one of the first to foresee the potential of sparkling wine and passed on his convictions to his brother and nephew. Nicolas Ruinart, who was a Reims draper like his father, started his first account ledger devoted to the "wine with bubbles" on September 1st, 1729. This ledger serves as the birth certificate for the
first Champagne House ever created. After having secured its foundation, the Ruinart Maison independently carved out its own destiny. The Maison has always remained very authentic and true to itself, acting with a true sense of elegance, refinement and lightness. Maison Ruinart was created at the start of the Age of Enlightenment, period when the arts, particularly table arts, and culture blossomed. And these endure in the most refined dimensions of the House’s heritage. The Ruinart Maison has carried this French Art de Vivre heritage over time and is the best symbol of it today in the world of Champagne.
