Katherine Williams: Fundraising Consultant

Katherine Williams: Fundraising Consultant Fundraising, Project Development, Evaluation, Project Management for charities and good causes I am a freelance fundraiser working in the north east of England.

I support charitable and community organisations (including schools) to raise funds for their much needed work. I specialise in grant fundraising and I can help with every stage - developing a concept right through to submitting bids and securing the funds. I also offer independent evaluation and monitoring. Whether you have a great idea but don't know where to start, or if you are experienced fun

draisers but simply don't have the time or resources to make it a priority, I can help. Whatever your project, a well-written bid can be the difference between funding success and failure.

Proper lunch break today 😍

Ticked some big things off my to do list and took a walk with the dog, her ball and a few skylarks. Came home energised - never underestimate the value of the great outdoors!

Got up this morning and idly checked my emails to find that one of the projects I am supporting has been offered £5000 from a local donor. I thought I’d stopped work yesterday but I will log back in to respond to this which is for a very small volunteer-led group and this will make a huge difference!

This is the reality of working freelance and I actually love it (I may be checking emails the Saturday before Christmas but the flexibility at other times of year is really worth it).

I spent a morning at yesterday doing a bit of blue sky thinking and getting excited about opportunities for people to visit, explore, discover and connect to the Rothbury Estate.

I love this sculpture on the way in. It feels like a metaphor for a very busy week with lots to do before Friday but hopefully something meaningful (and maybe even beautiful) will emerge from the chaos!

The last few weeks have been full on supporting two big projects working towards important funding deadlines. It was good step away from the laptop today and spend a couple of hours walking the old Wanney railway line.

There is an incredible display of felted fungi in Rothbury today. There is something magical in taking a local fleece and stabbing it several times with a needle to turn it into a mushroom, or a mouse, or a pumpkin, or whatever you like really.

This display, created by local crafters and school children, is a celebration of one year since and took ownership of half of the Rothbury Estate. It looks stunning and it beautifully captures the landscape’s inextricable link to a centuries old local farming tradition.

I am delighted to be working with The Wildlife Trusts to submit an application to for funding towards the acquisition of the rest of the estate. It’s fair to say I am feeing the pressure as we race towards deadline day but it is a joy to be working on such a very special and important project.

What a beautiful morning to be out and about catching up with the rangers at Newbiggin.

We are now reaching the end of the annual beach user survey period. Rangers and volunteers have been out on beaches since July and in 10 weeks the team have completed almost 180 surveys. My job over the winter will be to analyse the responses, along with surveys from previous years and other data.

Space for Shorebirds’ core message is to give birds space on the beach and to ensure they are not disturbed when they are nesting or feeding. These surveys and ongoing project evaluation are helping us to understand whether the people who use our beaches are aware of this message.

Lovely to be back at St Michael’s Church in Alnwick tonight to see the launch of their Making Your Mark exhibition. This has been a long time coming and it is thanks to the hard work of local volunteers that the display has come together, giving local people access to an important heritage story that has been concealed from view for 250 years.

Historic graffiti is etched into lead pieces which were previously part of the church roof. When the tower was restored the lead was recovered and these unique images were preserved. They are the marks of previous Alnwick residents - more than 100 shoes or footprints, several boats, more than a couple of love stories and a chicken!

The display has been brought to life by interpretation specialists and .

Go and see the graffiti as part of the this weekend.
