More than 1 visit allowed per week as of 4th Oct! Now lets see if they can get same day booking sorted!

The one visit per week limit for residents who want to take waste to any of Hampshire's 24 Household Waste Recycling Centres is coming to an end.

Confirming the operational decision, Councillor Rob Humby, the Deputy Leader and Executive Lead Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “We have listened to residents and believe that now we are further into the pandemic recovery phase, and entering a time of year when, historically, demand for site visits starts to reduce, the time is now right to increase opportunities to access household waste recycling centres.

"I am pleased to confirm that from 4 October, residents will no longer be limited to one visit per week. While the requirement to book visits online will remain in place for, at least, the time being, residents will be able to book visits to suit their needs. I would ask residents to make the most of each visit and separate out items for reuse and recycling to help us reduce the amount of waste that has to be disposed of.

“By making this move now, as we are about to enter winter operating hours, we can ensure that the demand during reduced opening times, can be met.”

The new arrangement will be effective from Monday 4 October.

While there will be no limit on the number of bookings per week, the County Council requests any bookings made which later are not required, are cancelled so that they can be available to others.

We are seeing reports that district council bottle banks are overflowing, due to the driver shortage making collections irregular. Really bad timing that HCC have just withdrawn glass bins from all their HWRCs-we need all parts of the system to work together to improve recycling rates!!

HCC plan to slashing the budget for our Household Waste Recycling Centres by £1.7m by cutting hours and closing smaller sites.

The County is running a consultation called Balancing the Budget and asking residents to give their views on these and other suggestions which can be found at https://www.hants.gov.uk/aboutthecouncil/haveyoursay/consultations/balancing-the-budget

If these cuts will affect you directly, it's particularly important to outline how in Section 4: Impacts: where it asks "what impact the County Council’s options for balancing its budget could have on you".
