Thank you to everyone who made Get Started In Business - Business Without Barriers such a fantastic event.

It was great to see so many people come together to explore self-employment, share experiences, and connect with the right support.

A huge thank you to our speakers - Katie Matthews-Furphy, Shelley Cowan, and Shaun Doherty - and our panel for their honesty, insight, and inspiration.

Thanks also to Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council and Mid & East Antrim Borough Council for funding the event, to the team at Dunsilly Hotel for the wonderful venue, catering, and hospitality, and to the supporting organisations who came along to provide valuable signposting for attendees.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended - your engagement, conversations, and brilliant feedback made the day.

delivered an exceptional Stay Connected event on 26th November. Now in its fourth year, the event continues to be a highlight in the diary for the electrical contracting industry; attracting more speakers, panels, sponsors, exhibitors, and attendees - achieving excellent feedback and engagement.

In 2024, Stay Connected marked the launch of the ETT 'Shock Silence' Report, which revealed 80% of electrical workers in NI have experienced an electric shock on the job, with over 74% of incidents going unreported. This year saw the launch of the ETT Industry Working Group Action Plan, which aims to collaboratively address sectoral challenges across safety, skills, and sustainability.

We love delivering facilitated workshops to support the Industry Working Group, and helping the ETT team with Stay Connected - who's ready for 2026?! ๐Ÿ’ก๐Ÿคฉ

โœจ NI Photonics Innovation Cluster (NI-PIC) officially launches on the Day of Photonics 2025

Northern Ireland has taken a major step forward in its innovation journey with the official launch of the NI Photonics Innovation Cluster (NI-PIC) announced on the International Day of Photonics, hosted by Digital Catapult in Belfast.

Building on the legacy of Smart Nano NI, NI-PIC brings together industry, academia, and government to accelerate collaboration, commercialisation, and skills development in photonics - the light-based technologies driving advances in manufacturing, healthcare, energy, defence, and more.

With talks and panel discussions from John Lincoln (CEO of the Photonics Leadership Group), Smart Nano NI consortium members, Matrix NI, the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC), Ulster University, and Digital Catapult, the event highlighted how photonics can power regional growth, global competitiveness, and good jobs for Northern Ireland.

Invest Northern Ireland

20/10/2025

Running a busy consultancy business, it can be difficult to carve out time to attend industry events, but I'm so glad I took a couple of days out of the office last week to attend the TCI Global Conference in Dublin.

It was not only a great opportunity to catch-up with so many colleagues, but truly valuable for making new connections, learning *a lot* about international best practice in cluster strategy, and getting to hear first-hand about Northern Ireland and Ireland's plans to invest in industry-led clusters to maximise economic and wider societal impacts.

As a Network and Cluster Facilitator, there were so many amazing take-aways I can apply to the industry-led groups I'm currently supporting.

Friday night saw the return of with Vol. 2.

We'd seen Gregg Reidโ€™s posts on LinkedIn so looked forward to hearing about his (turns out, numerous) f*ck ups, which he shared with good humour and zero regrets.

Andrine Mendez shared his story of resilience in the face of insurmountable challenges that are often out of our control - a lesson in 'get back up and go again'.

The final talk of the night was the absolute riot that is Naomh McElhatton, who had the audience in tears with laughter while talking about some hard-hitting realities.

What Chris Shannon and Meg Magill are doing with F*cukup Nights is more than just creating a space for people to - it's to throw open just how normal 'failure' is - giving the audience a behind-the-scenes look at people you maybe follow on social media, have maybe known of for years - and assumed that they're always smashing it and everything they touch turns to gold. F*ckup Nights shines a light on what *really* goes on - as we all empathetically nod, smile, and laugh knowing as f*ckuppers, none of us are alone.

Great connections made on Friday, and hopefully more to follow!
