Got a sample of insects through from another pest controller this week. I invested in a small electronic microscope camera recently, and he asked me to try and identify the sample. Using the stills from the microscope which is linked to the laptop we got some reasonable photos, considering they were only about 1-2mm long. The largest one appears to be a two banded micro moth and the other is a species of parasitic wasp

The customer has rats in walls, ceiling and roof space in a three bed semi. Next door has rats in their house too. My customer owns his house
Next doors is rented out. Lifted the drain cover on my customers property. Tested all the sinks, baths showers etc. All the branches of the drain serve a function except the outlet at 1'o'clock on the photo, which, coincidentally, is full of rat droppings and dry as a desert. Drain survey time I reckon, but not ruling out ingress upstairs from next door. Time will tell. Onwards and upwards.

Lovely customer had rats under the units in the kitchen. Lots of droppings but they couldn't figure out how they were leaving the wall cavity, where she hears them regularly. I pulled the dishwasher out and ...voila. a great big hole. Now the trick is to find out how they're in the walls. Drains have got gravel in them so survey of drains I reckon

Wasps nest in Thenford behind an electrical junction box. Access gained through a cable hole into the wall cavity. Puff the magic dragon sorted it and it was dead 24 hrs later.

We've been working on a squirrel job where the main entry point on the house had been made by gnawing a hole in the end of the soffit. The landlord said he'd get it fixed and a man with a ladder came. Guess what he blocked the hole with? Yep....wood...at which the squirrel just re opened the hole. We went there today and made a custom fit aluminium cap for the end. Fits perfectly and will keep the squirrel out. Another job jobbed.

This is a photograph of the area under the paving stones adjacent to a manhole which had to be repointed. The repointing work had to be done to prevent rats leaving the drains and living under the pathways and driveway. You can see the extent to which these natural survivors can tunnel under concrete. The paving stones will have to be relaid as there is virtually no support for them and they are rocking from side to side. Thankfully, they never got into the house.

Just finished a mole job in Chippy. I set twelve duffus traps next to the river on the lawn. This hot weather, moles will tend to frequent the most moist ground, which is where the worms are. I got one double catch and two singles. A total of four, which is a job done for now.

Bee season again. Set up camp in a chimney of a thatched house. Each side of the chimney, which was extended about 10 years ago, has two holes about 20mm diameter in exactly the same corresponding positions. They look as though they were drilled there on purpose (ventilation?) The bees are using all 4 holes to exit/ enter. The pot with the 'hat' on is blocked off. The bees are below the other pot between the flue liner and the brickwork and are getting into the living room downstairs and stinging people. They've made various attempts to block out the bees from the living room with tape and filler to no avail
