Delighted to help my client support an employee with a drinking problem. It was severely affecting his mental health and he wasn't in a good way, to the point where it was affecting his performance at work and the company was deliberating whether to discipline him.
However, his willingness to acknowledge the problem and the company's willingness to support him meant that it was a win-win for both.
Far too often I've seen employers take the easy route and simply make the problem go away without putting the hard yards in.
I'm really pleased that I was able to coach the client and help facilitate a positive outcome.
It was also a reminder that all mental health issues have an origin and if both employer and employee can have an open dialogue, then there's no reason why the working relationship can't thrive.
