Tried all the usual sleep advice… and it’s still not working? 😴💙
If you’re parenting an autistic or neurodivergent child, you’ve probably heard:
“Just stick to a routine”
“Earlier bedtime”
“Limit screens”
But what if that advice just… doesn’t fit your child?
Here are some actually helpful sleep tips for neurodivergent children 👇
✨ 1. Look at sensory needs first
Is something in their environment uncomfortable?
Light, noise, pyjamas, bedding—even the feeling of the room—can make settling impossible.
✨ 2. Don’t force a “typical” bedtime
Some children simply aren’t ready to sleep when expected.
Working with their natural rhythm can reduce stress for everyone.
✨ 3. Build a wind-down that suits THEIR brain
Quiet doesn’t always mean calm.
Some children regulate better with movement, music, or repetition before bed.
✨ 4. Reduce pressure around sleep
The more stress around bedtime, the harder it becomes.
Focus on feeling safe and regulated first—sleep often follows.
✨ 5. Think beyond sleep
Daytime burnout, overwhelm, and transitions all impact nights.
Better days often lead to better sleep.
💙 Your child isn’t “being difficult”—their needs just aren’t being met by one-size-fits-all advice.
That’s where personalised, neurodivergent-friendly support can make all the difference.
