Christmas is one of my favourite seasons of the year, it is my birthday month, and I like the festivities the season brings.

It's also a time to be grateful, a time to reflect, a time of hope and a time to give.

My son's straw hat was blown onto a busy road on a sunny, windy afternoon. My son stood at the corner of the pavement crying his heart out (he told me it was his favourite hat) when a kind stranger stepped out into the busy road just when there was a gap in the traffic and picked up his hat.

It was a simple act, but it mattered to me. I was in a bit of a panic and didn't know what to do. I also felt alone at that point.

Thankfully, someone cared enough to help, and the hat was fine.

I had to leave behind my community of family, cousins, friends, colleagues and church when I moved to London from Malaysia in Sept 2008

Then in Sept 2018, I left behind my colleagues from Z2K to focus on my family. And in November of that year, we moved to Beckenham.

When I started looking to advertise my VA business in late 2019, I was at a loss. I did not know anyone in Beckenham, and most in my small circle of friends and former colleagues were involved in the business.

I was delighted to discover FSB Bromley and Beckenham Business Association. In the three years of online meetings, I now know business owners local to me. When I walked into BBA Day and saw familiar faces, that gave me a warm feeling as I'm thankful for this supportive community of local businesses.

I really like this form of creativity - using ordinary objects differently.

It does make me wonder if I should stop telling my son off when he uses or interacts with things in a way that it was not intended for..

I'm borrowing the word 'agnostic' from the technologists.
It means I don't believe there is a "best" digital tool or a digital tool that can be everything to everyone.

Why? It's because I believe that:
a. Each business is unique. Every business owner is different and has different preferences for tools and processes.
b. I believe you need to identify and understand the needs of the business before choosing a tool. One that may work well for one business may not work for another.
c. It's essential to find the best tool for a business and not try to fit the business into the tool.

I had to learn to research and evaluate digital tools to find the best fit for my business because I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all. And I do this for my clients, too, as I want them to use the best tool.

The days are getting chillier and darker earlier.
Here are some ideas/trends for those working from home.

1️⃣ Cosy up with a faux sheep skin rug on the chair or on the floor.

2️⃣ Get an I-won't-get-bored-looking-at-you coaster and a mug to go with it. Be ready for the season of endless tea/coffee and hot chocolate.

3️⃣ If you haven't got one already, get a stylish desk lamp.
