🛠 EXPERIENCED CABINET MAKER 🛠

📍 Eyemouth/Occasional work off-site
💷 £30,000 – £36,000 per annum, depending on experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Eyemouth Marine as they establish a brand new woodworking workshop in collaboration with Foundry 53 - a high quality furniture and cabinetry maker.

We are looking for an experienced Cabinet Maker to join the team at the beginning of this new venture and play a key role in establishing and developing our production capability.

This is a hands-on, senior production role for someone who knows their craft and is confident working independently. You’ll be manufacturing high quality modular kitchen cabinetry, bespoke furniture and marine joinery, while helping to establish efficient production methods and high standards within the new workshop.

As the business grows, you’ll also play an important role in training and supporting less experienced cabinet makers, sharing your knowledge and helping build a strong woodworking team.

What we're looking for:

👉At least four years relevant experience in cabinet making, bench joinery or a comparable high quality woodworking environment, or equivalent demonstrable experience
👉A high level of practical woodworking skill, accuracy and attention to detail
👉 Strong experience using industrial woodworking machinery, power tools and hand tools safely and competently
👉 Ability to read and work from detailed technical drawings and 3D models; experience of SketchUp would be advantageous
👉 Sound knowledge of timber, sheet materials, hardware, construction methods and cabinet making processes
👉 Experience of machining, assembly, dry fitting and installation
👉 Knowledge of finishes and finishing techniques. High quality paint spraying experience would be advantageous
👉 A full UK driving licence, as occasional travel to client sites and other off site locations may be required

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced craftsperson who wants to be part of building something new, rather than simply stepping into an established production environment.

You’ll be employed by Eyemouth Marine Limited, reporting directly to the Managing Director, with day-to-day technical direction and collaboration with Foundry 53 as the new woodworking operation develops.

📩 Those interested should send their CV and short covering letter to [email protected]

📅 Closing date: Friday 25th September 2026 (COB)

🚨HR FACT OF THE WEEK🚨

“They’ve been here less than 2 years, so I can dismiss them?”

This is a really common question we get asked by business owners 👀

At the moment, employees generally need 2 years’ service to bring an ordinary unfair dismissal claim.

❗️❗️BUT THAT IS CHANGING❗️❗️

From 1 January 2027, the qualifying period will reduce from 2 years to just 6 months.

What this means in practice is that if an employee already has 6 months service by 1 January 2027, they will gain unfair dismissal protection under the new rules.

So, if you employ people, now is the time to make sure you understand the changes and are managing probation, performance and dismissals correctly.

⚠️ Less than 2 years doesn’t mean you can simply dismiss someone without following a proper process. There are already day one protections for certain types of dismissal, including discrimination and automatically unfair reasons.

💙 Not sure what the changes mean for your business and want someone to manage this for you?

Does your business need HR? 🤔

Yes. If you employ people, you need HR. 👥

It doesn’t mean you need a full time HR Manager however.

But you do need to make sure you’re:

⚖️ Complying with employment law, and staying abreast of changes
📄 Using the right contracts and policies - not just those you've downloaded from somewhere
💬 Managing employee issues correctly
🔄 Keeping up with legislative changes - it changes regularly!
🛡️ Protecting your business when things go wrong

HR isn’t just about dealing with problems
It’s about preventing them in the first place ✅
