💗 Kindness 💗

I've been feeling poorly the past few days with a nasty cold, so visits to my clients have naturally been postponed. This afternoon, feeling a lot better but a bit sorry for myself, I decided to get some fresh air and see the sunshine for half an hour. I noticed a little boy of about 5 years old playing with some much older youngsters at the bottom of the path I was walking along. As I walked past he came up to me and gave me this beautiful daisy! I gave my heartfelt thanks to him to which he sweetly replied "You're welcome!". As I walked on a wave of teary emotion came over me as it was such a pure, simple and kind gesture that touched me so deeply. He could have easily given the daisy to one of the other children, but decided to give it to me, a total stranger 🥺

Never under estimate the power of kindness. Just a small kind gesture can have such a positive impact on somebody.

(the daisy is now in my favourite blue bottle in some spring water 🩵)

🌈 A Bridge 🌈

Receiving this lovely feedback helped me realise that communication with a client's loved one(s) or next of kin is so very important to help keep them connected. Some family or friends live far away and are unable to visit, telephone communication may be limited due to a hard of hearing, and mobile phone technology may not be accessible to the much older generation. This is where I become a bridge to ensure that connection 💗🌈💗

For this 96 year old client, I enjoy doing her weekly food shop, booking medical appointments, collecting/arranging her prescriptions and bringing her companionship 💕 but I realise there is more...

On this occasion, my client wanted to send flowers to her next of kin who lived up country. I sourced a local florist to them and showed examples of bouquets on their website to my client via my mobile phone, who felt what they create would be perfect. I then called the florist to find out more and a few weeks later my client decided she wanted to order them 🌺🌸💐 She wanted me to call her next of kin to let them know they will be receiving flowers on the chosen day, which I did. I also asked them if they use their phone to send photos (they did), as thought it would be nice for my client to be able to see the bouquet she had sent 😊 They did that and I was able to show the photo a text message from them to my client. Her face lit up when she saw the flowers and the lovely message her family had sent her in response 💖

I see clearly how easy it is for most of us to make a call, send a text/photo, look things up, make an order...but to some this is impossible, unless they have that support.

🌸 Companionship 🌸

Some people live alone, they may be housebound or, if they are able to get out, can only do so if there is somebody to take them. For some, there may be family nearby who bring support and for others there may be nobody and the only people they see from time to time are their Carers, District Nurse or other visiting professionals.

I hold great value in bringing companionship to my clients and see first hand how it can help alleviate feelings of isolation and loneliness. Be it a cup of tea and chat at home for an hour a week or getting out and about, it all helps bring connection, a feeling of social inclusion and helps people feel 'human' and their old self again. Naturally, we build a bond and have a lovely time together too 😊💕

I love helping all people, but have a very soft spot for those in their latter years. This is the beautiful Pat on her 90th birthday, who shined her light so brightly all the way to the end of her life journey. She will always have a place in my heart... the chats we had, her wisdom, our cups of tea and giggles together, her love of dogs and all animals, including the pet fox she had as a child. I would take my dog Lily to see her, which she absolutely loved. I would pick her flowers from her garden to brighten her day, she loved the colour purple so I was always on the look for purple flowers :) x 🩷
