I’ve been a Milkman now since 1985.. 38 years now, never missing a day either..
Want to reduce your carbon footprint some more, it’s false economy driving for your milk especially these days with the price of fuel.
I deliver Milk in 100% recycled returnable glass bottles. Forget plastic it's destroying the planet & our health too.. plus like everything it taste much better in glass.
All my milk is sourced from Yorkshire Dales farmers,ethically accredited Dairy herds that roam free over large swathes of the Yorkshires Dales beautiful landscape. From around the farm in Grassington down to Appletreewick & Burnsal,the opposite way and over to Malham, so a even smaller carbon footprint from its eventual source in Grassington we’re it’s all bottled, unlike supermarket milk we’re it’s brought in from all over the place even Europe we’re standard & the cows welfares ain’t as high on their priority lists!
I deliver to ALL of Gildersome & Drighlington a good part of Morley & all around Jct 27 but mainly that’s all offices & industrial.
Pint of fresh Milk in glass I deliver is 80p
Fresh Orange in pint glass is £1.45p
Local Large Free Range Eggs are £3.60 a dozen.
I don’t charge any service charges either or extras like these new profiteering milk supposedly “Modern Milk“ delivery companies that have sprung up since covid began.
I deliver 3 days a week now since the New Year of 2023 ( Mon Wed & Fri ) after almost 40 yrs of 6 days a week.
My delivery round is in a small condensed area ( footprint) of customers and businesses I’ve built up since the eighties in LS27, BD11 & LS12 … I live just down the road in Birkenshaw. So unlike these milk companies employees,I don’t have to race around,doing the odd houses here & there all over the place like they do, and who charge up to 40p per pint of milk more than my myself. ( McQueens )
I spoke to a ‘MM’ employee, he’s left now, he told me he did approx 135 miles through each night racing around to get his area done ( not economical or eco friendly like they like to state on their flyers, leaflets & online app ) … but then that’s why they must have to charge people so much more money I suppose ! .. and he said job retention was horrendous because of these ridiculous conditions they were put under hence they make lots of continual mistakes as they don’t get to learn an area adequately, they then get fed up & leave giving myself & other long established milkmen a bad name lumping us in when folk complain on social media.
I do itemised bills 4 weekly I leave them after the 4th week is over,most people then pay me by BAC’s or leave a cheque in the envelope I leave their bill in, a few also post on to my home too.
I’ve always been very conscientious & meticulous in my deliveries,the collecting of empties,shutting of gates,covering them or putting discreetly outa site, whilst being as quiet as I can be. I do it all myself no young kids like most others use aka child labour, especially at such early hours & shouldn’t really be doing it.
I’m finished by 6 am each morning normally, so it’s not left out on the doorstep, after people might have left for work,especially not good in the summertime. ☀️
I don’t normally advertise has I get continually recommended & are happy plodding along with all my lovely loyal customers I have already,but since covid & now the “cost of living crisis “ I’ve been getting more people contact me, mainly because of these other suppliers large price hikes, it has gone up much more than in usual years to us all admittidley … the other reason I’m now
on FB I’ve been getting a steady stream of my customers telling me they get cold callers pressure sales folk plus endless leaflets from these companies & other milkmen , when it’s obvious they can see or are told they already have a milkman.
So hopefully this message might help a few folk if you’re over paying ridiculous amounts or more!
