Interviews aren’t just about how you answer the questions.
They’re about how you arrive, mentally and physically.

The more you plan ahead, the clearer the path feels, whether in-person or remote.

If you’re heading to an in-person interview then;
- Check your route in advance
- Build in time for delays
- Aim to arrive early enough to gather your thoughts

If it’s remote, then;
- Test your tech works with a test call
- Have a backup plan for connectivity, just in case
- Log in early so nothing feels rushed

You can’t predict every question, but you can control how you show up.
Prepare well and the road will feel much more straightforward.

Not all skills come with a certificate.

Some you’ve picked up just without realising by solving problems and supporting your team.

Have you ever...
👉 Covered for a colleague without being asked?
👉 Trained someone new while doing your own job?
👉 Spotted an issue early and dealt with it quietly?
👉 Calmed a difficult client or managed a tricky inbox?
👉 Adapted to a new system mid-project without skipping a beat?

These show initiative, leadership, communication and adaptability.

You might not list these on your CV, but employers are looking for skills like that.

Before an interview, have examples in mind that you can bring up in conversation - they'll help set you apart from the crowd.

If you’re in the process of applying for jobs, it’s worth remembering that employers are likely to look you up online.

Start by taking a look at your privacy settings.
If there are parts of your life you’d rather keep personal, make sure they’re not visible to anyone outside your circle.

Your profile picture is another important detail.
Even if you’re not particularly active online, this image is often visible by default, so it’s worth making sure it’s suitable. Research suggests that simply having a profile picture improves response rates, so don’t leave it blank.

Finally, remember it’s not just LinkedIn that matters.
Employers may look across a range of platforms, so give all your accounts a quick review and tidy up well before you start sending out applications.

Social media has a long memory, and you don’t want something from years ago cropping up when you least expect it.

Big day today as students everywhere get their results - some will be celebrating, while others will feel flat and perhaps a little panicked.

But remember, results may open some doors, but YOU decide what happens next.

Over the years, we’ve worked with candidates who've...

👉 changed direction down the line and found their perfect job.
👉 built brilliant careers without perhaps getting the grades they wanted.
👉 didn't go to uni, but became vital team members in top firms.

So if you didn’t get what you wanted today, take a breath.
You have time, options – and support.

There is a path that’s right for you.
And it might be better than you ever imagined.

If you're about to recruit, don't fall into this trap.

You dig out and dust off an old job spec word doc pulled from a shared drive somewhere. You quickly 'edit it' to maybe add in a line about AI or hybrid working. You send it out to market and move on with your day.

The result?

A role that feels unclear, undefined or totally disconnected from how your team ACTUALLY works today.

Rewriting a job spec can seem like a pain, but think about what may have changed in the meantime.

Have you and your team moved to a hybrid model?
Have your systems changed?
Have your business priorities shifted?
Are the skills you really need different from the last time you really thought about it?

If you simply edit an old version, you risk alienating the best applicants - which will cost you time in the long run.

It doesn’t need to be perfect. But it does need to reflect the role as it is today.

Employers WILL check you out on social media - especially LinkedIn.

That's why your profile page matters.

Your LinkedIn profile should show what you do, what you’re great at and give an idea of where you want to go next.

Make sure you...

🔵 Use a clean, friendly profile photo (not from a night out)
🔵 Enter your job descriptions, not just titles
🔵 Write a one-paragraph ‘About’ summary in your own voice
🔵 Keep it up to date
🔵 Build your network - connect with potential employers

🤫 Bonus tip to make you more 'findable' - add 5–10 relevant skills in the 'skills section'

It doesn’t need to be perfect - but without these items, your LinkedIn is working against you, not for you.

for more practical tips to land your next dream job.
