At AJ Recycling, we believe our customers deserve clear, honest pricing with no hidden charges and no surprises.
One of the most common questions we are asked is why some items cost more to remove than others.
The answer is simple. Certain items attract additional disposal charges at licensed waste transfer stations and recycling facilities. As a licensed commercial waste carrier, we are legally required to use authorised waste facilities for the disposal of collected waste and cannot use household recycling centres intended for domestic use.
These facilities charge additional fees for certain waste streams due to the specialist handling, processing, recycling, or disposal methods required. As a result, some items cost significantly more to dispose of than standard mixed household waste.
Additional disposal charges we must allow for include:
🛋️ Sofa / Sofa Bed / Futon – £60 per unit
🪑 Dining Chair / Office Chair / Stool – £30 per unit
🛏️ Mattress – £36 per unit
📺 TV / Monitor – £30 per unit
❄️ Domestic Fridge / Freezer – £54 per unit
🚗 Tyre – £12 per unit
🌳 Tree Roots / Logs / Stumps – £108 per tonne
Standalone Collection Prices per unit
🛋️ Sofa – £100 to £120
💺 Armchair – £80 to £100
🪑 Dining / Office Chair – £40 to £50
🛏️ Mattress – £70 to £90
📺 TV / Monitor – £40 to £60
❄️ Fridge / Freezer – £90 to £120
🚗 Tyre – £25
Please note that standalone collection prices include loading, transport, fuel, disposal costs, insurance and labour.
Wherever possible, we always aim to:

However, this is not always possible. For that reason, we must still include disposal costs within our quotations to ensure items can be dealt with responsibly if they cannot be reused or recycled.

Paint may only be accepted if fully dried.
