Do you need to understand exactly how AI works before you start using it?

No. But you do need enough understanding to use it appropriately.

That’s a big part of Tech Confidence for me.

You don’t need to know everything before you begin. You can start small, learn as you go and build your confidence through actually using the technology.

And if you’d like some support getting started with AI, my AI Adventure Workshop is designed to help you take those first Braver Clicks.

I genuinely love learning, and I don’t think that will ever stop.
Technology is constantly changing, which means there will always be something new to discover, explore or understand a little better.
So I’m rather pleased to have completed Google’s AI Fundamentals course through Coursera 🎉

For me, being a Tech Confidence Coach isn’t about knowing absolutely everything. It’s about continuing to learn, staying curious and building the knowledge and confidence to take the next Braver Click.

And I quite like that there will always be a next one. 😊

A little Monday Tech Confidence reminder. 💜

If there’s something technology-related that you’ve been meaning to sort out, you don’t have to tackle the whole thing today.

Pick one small job.

Delete a few files you don’t need.
Sort one folder.
Change that setting you’ve been meaning to look at.
Find out how to do the thing you keep putting off.

Small bits of progress still count.

One Braver Click at a time. 😊

When your spice cabinet is fully loaded but dinner inspiration is running low 😅 Enter: Gemini as my personal sous chef. 🧑‍🍳 I dropped my random pantry ingredients into the chat and it built a perfectly balanced Chicken Tandoori Curry from scratch. The tadka sizzle was real! 🔥 What’s everyone making for dinner tonight? 👇

Friday Afternoon Fun 😁

It’s time to send something to Tech Room 101.

You can banish ONE tech annoyance forever. Gone. Never to darken your screen again.

What are you choosing?

Maybe it’s…

🍪 Cookie pop-ups appearing the second you open a website.

🔄 Your computer deciding NOW is the perfect time for an update.

🖨️ The printer suddenly behaving as though it has never met your laptop before in its life.

🔐 A password form waiting until you’ve created a password to tell you it needed a capital letter, three numbers, a symbol and possibly a small sacrifice to the technology gods.

Or have you got something even more deserving of a place in Room 101?

One choice. No sneaking a second one in.

C O M M E N T what are you banishing? 👇

🔎 I need a few website detectives!

I’ve been doing some work behind the scenes on my website and I’ve reached the point where testing it myself is only going to tell me so much.

I know where everything is supposed to go. I know what’s supposed to happen when I click a button. And my devices and browsers already have a history with my website.

So, I need some fresh eyes 👀

I’m looking for a few lovely volunteers who would be willing to spend a little time testing my website and customer journey for me.

I’d particularly love a mixture of:
📱 phones, tablets and computers
🌐 different browsers
🍪 different cookie choices

✨ and ideally at least a couple of people who have never visited my website before

I’ll give you some simple instructions about what I’d like you to try, including having a wander around the website and testing part of the purchase journey. You won’t need to actually buy anything!

And you definitely don’t need to be a tech expert!

In fact, I want to know what the experience is actually like for real people using the website.

If you fancy putting your website detective hat on for me, comment below or send me a message. 🔎

Do you ever feel as though you're supposed to be keeping up with ALL the technology?

Every new app. Every new feature. Every AI tool somebody announces is apparently going to change everything. 😵‍💫

You don't need to.

There is far too much technology out there for any of us to know everything about it, and most of it probably isn't relevant to what you actually need to do.

For me, Tech Confidence isn't about knowing all the things.

It's having enough knowledge and confidence to ask:

💜 Is this relevant to me?
💜 Could it make something I already do easier?
💜 Is it worth spending my time learning?

And being perfectly happy when the answer is no.

You can be curious about technology without chasing every new thing that appears.

Choose what is useful to you. Learn what you need. Know where to find reliable help when you need something else.

That's Tech Confidence too.

You don’t need to start Monday with a huge list of technology you ought to learn.

Pick one small thing.

Maybe there’s a button you’ve been wondering about.

A setting you’ve never explored.

A feature in something you already use that might save you a bit of time.

Or something you’ve been meaning to look up because you don’t quite understand what it does.

Give yourself ten minutes next week to explore it.

Not because you need to master it.

Just to find out a little more than you knew before.

That’s often what a Braver Click looks like.

Small enough to try. Useful enough to matter. 🖱️✨

Sometimes the best reason for learning how to do something with technology is simply:

“Right. I’m fed up of not knowing how to do this.” 😂

No grand learning plan.

No ambition to become an expert.

Just one thing that has irritated you enough times that eventually you think, I’m going to work this out.

And sometimes that’s all the motivation you need to have a go.

So, my Saturday question:

What’s something you learnt to do with technology simply because you got fed up of not knowing how?

It can be big, tiny or wonderfully specific.

I suspect there are going to be some good ones… 👇

👽 Friday Afternoon Fun!

An alien has just landed on Earth.

For reasons I cannot explain, YOU have been chosen to teach them what AI is. 😂

There's just one problem...

The alien doesn't understand any of these words:

🚫 computer
🚫 robot
🚫 technology
🚫 intelligent
🚫 artificial

So...

How would you explain AI to an alien without using ANY of the banned words?

I'll go first:

“You ask it questions. It has read an enormous amount of stuff and tries to work out what words should come next. It can be very useful, but please don't assume everything it tells you is true.” 😂

Your turn!

How are you explaining AI to our new extraterrestrial visitor? 👽👇
