The True Worth Expert

The True Worth Expert I train and coach law firms and professional services individuals in how to get paid their true worth ethically, without selling their soul.

I dramatically shift the thinking for people in professional services taking them from their own perceptions of not feeling they can really charge what they are worth, to doing just that – and more! This unique ability, to bring out the best in people, has evolved for me over many years of facing similar challenges both professionally and personally, even questioning my own value in business. Wit

h the development of my proprietary UV + CV + CD = CW formula, I work with professional services organisations and sole traders, instilling greater confidence and inspiring them to take the necessary action, resulting in incredibly fast changes that directly impact revenues and the bottom line. I have always felt naturally drawn to understanding what it takes and how to make people shift. I have consistently challenged myself to experience the effects of my approach and methods and understand how a client feels. This helped me conquer many of my own fears and concerns, from dropping solo to work in a French-speaking part of Africa, launching a successful business later in life or overcoming a fear of heights by jumping out of a plane from 10,000 feet up! The core value that drives me is authenticity; being true to myself. I find this is the key approach to helping my clients be empowered to find their true selves and in turn their true value. This has led me to combine my more unique and some might say unorthodox way of being and be effective in industries that many would view as more conservative. I am by no means conservative. It works; some have even described me as Wonder Woman, with purple glasses, but the effect and results are still dramatic. When not helping others discover their value, I add more value to my own life through a variety of action-based activities including spin classes, circuit training, dancing and dog walking. Maintaining my lifelong passion for the French language, but not their wine, I will be regularly found enjoying the cultural delights of my second country.

I literally just saw this and thought it was perfect and wanted to share.

I've not really posted much on Facebook of late, as I tend to concentrate on LinkedIn and post there every week day.

But this I just had to share.

I do hope those who need to see this message do see it.

First love yourself. Absolutely!

If that’s good enough for Warren Buffett, it’s good enough for me.

And yet, so often I receive emails asking me what I charge, with no information about what, where, when, how many and certainly I am never asked what value can you bring to my firm, my team and so on?

So it’s not just about how you sell, it’s also about how you buy. It’s also a habit to be price-focused, rather than value-focused.

Habits can be changed, though.

Sell on value.

Buy on value.

If the ROI is greater than the original investment, you or your prospect, depending on whether you’re buying or selling is on to a winner.

Don’t be like everyone else, stand out and be different.

It’s common sense really, but the trouble with common sense is that it’s not really common.

So what are you going to do?

Off to Worthing today with a full tank of petrol, to deliver a couple of True Worth workshops for a lovely law firm.

Then a bite to eat and a natter with Lara Squires and Lou Gilbert.

So lovely to be doing normal stuff.

ARE YOU PRIMARK OR PRADA?

Or something in between?

It’s OK whatever market you choose to serve.

The key is to make sure that you charge accordingly.

So often, highly talented and capable service-based businesses charge as if they’re Primark yet deliver something way better.

So what is the cause of this mismatch, you may ask?

It’s what I call the Noisy Natter Chitty Chatter in your head which says:

How can I possibly charge that?

It’s a lot to ask them to pay.

How can I justify charging that when it was so easy?

Is it really worth that much?

Or words to that effect.

Let’s get one thing straight. The Noisy Natter in your head talks utter rubbish. Yet if you let it, it will scare you into submission and working too hard for too little.

Let’s take each one of the above and address them.

1) How can I possibly charge that?

Think rationally about what you’re doing for the client and what it will mean to the client when you have done it.

2) It’s a lot to ask them to pay.

Says who? How do you know that unless you focus on the value you are providing and what it will mean to the client when you have solved their problem?

3) How can I justify charging that when it was so easy?

Easy to you, yes, but not easy for your clients. How long did it take for it to be easy for you? They’re paying for your knowledge, your expertise and your skills.

4) Is it really worth that much?

Yes it is.

Mastering your mind means much more money, ethically.

If I can be of assistance, just drop me a p.m.

DO UNDERTAKERS HAVE PROBLEMS CHARGING THEIR WORTH – HELL NO!

Have you ever heard of an undertaker saying, oh you poor thing, you’ve lost a loved one, let me knock some of my fees off?

I very much doubt it.

Then why do YOU slash your fees because your clients are in some kind of pain?

Of course, it’s human to feel sorry for them.

Be empathic, look after them as best as you can, but do not muddle up money with emotion.

That just means you are negatively effecting your business and potentially your well-being which means that you are not in the best place to serve your clients.

Get a grip.

I do understand. It’s not so easy if you are a heart-led person, who loves to help your clients.

However, when you help others at your own expense, it really is not good for you or ultimately for the client.

You don’t have to be hard-nosed.

You can care about your clients, charge your true worth AT THE SAME TIME and still be a nice person.

Yes, you can.

Remember, this will also ultimately benefit your clients too.

Fabulous feedback from Theodore Kittila, known as Ted.

Ted was an absolute pleasure to work with and took to coaching like a duck to water, was open-minded, inquisitive and reflective.

This allowed him to change behaviours which were not supporting him in his effort to take more control of his destiny and feel happier.

He was what I describe as a perfect client for me and vice versa.

MY GUT IS MY GUIDE

Unfortunately, people often discount their gut instinct and, for example, take on someone who is an absolute PITA client (Pain in the A…).

They had an inkling that the person would be trouble but their conditioning to always say yes, and their lack of belief in their own guidance system, over-ruled it.

I wonder if you have had an experience of ignoring your gut instinct and paying the price.

I know I have many times in the past. But no more.

So what can you do to ensure that you pay your gut instinct more attention?

1) Set the intention to do this. As with everything that we want to change or develop, practice is the key to achieving this.

2) When you have an instinct about something, whether to do it or not makes no difference, then write down what you are feeling as this will make it more concrete for you.

3) You can then question it as follows:

What will happen if I follow my gut instinct?

What won’t happen if I do this?

What am I willing to do?

What aren’t I willing to do?

By the time you have gone through this process, which doesn't have to take long, your awareness and confidence will both have increased and it is likely you will then make the right decision FOR YOU!

You always have a choice.

You do not have to take on every client, if they are not right for you.

Your gut instinct is your guidance and won’t see you wrong.

The more attention you pay to it, the stronger it will become.

Just like exercising your body, you exercise your instinct.

Try it and let me know how you get on.

IMPOSTER SYNDROME (IS)

Imposter Syndrome is as common as the common cold and I used to suffer from it. However, when I realised what I’m about to share with you, I understood that it is just a load of old tosh.

So here goes.

In order to have IS, you must have a reasonably high-level job. Yes?

So you’re intelligent aren’t you?

OK and you’re doing that job well, aren’t you?

Chances are the answer is yes.

In fact, what I’ve found is that people with IS are very conscientious, have high standards and are pretty hard on themselves.

Also have you ever heard of a road sweeper, cleaner or refuse collector suffering from IS? No disrespect to any of those people who are much needed.

Answer: no!

Conclusion:

IS is just the Noisy Natter Chitty ChatterTM in your head making up nonsensical stories and instead of believing it, your job is to delete it and substitute it with more resourceful self-talk.

The only Imposter is Imposter Syndrome.

Think about it and I’m sure you’ll come to the same conclusion as I did.

If you allow IS to flourish, it has the potential to eat away your profits, your self-worth and your happiness.

Don’t let it. Nip it in the bud now.

HOW CAN I JUSTIFY MY FEES?

Do you ever think that? If so, you're not alone.

If I’ve heard that question once, I’ve heard it a thousand times. My answer quite simply is that you don’t have to.

When someone thinks about justifying their fees, it really means that they don’t believe that they’re worth the fees they are charging.

And if that is the case, then nor will their clients, because the justifier, for want of a better word, is not feeling confident and that energy of uncertainty will be picked up by the client.

You have to change your mind-set to one of what’s the value I bring to my clients?

In this way, you move away from thinking that your fees are high to knowing the value you provide and feeling it at a deep level.

Then when you talk to your prospects about your charges, insecurity is no longer present. Instead you feel calm and sure of yourself.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that every prospect will not want to challenge you on your fees; you have to be willing to handle any objections they may have and clarify the value for them.

Some prospects may not be right for you and are just looking for cheap.

Then you can politely let them go, without fear.

Decide on your fees, stick to your guns and prepare some words to handle any objections.

Because you are worth it.

And if you are feel you would like some help with this, then please feel free to get in touch.
