I love it when a client truly lives their brand..

I found out recently that a particular client is doing her sales and marketing on the beach now!

Gaining more clients and kicking butt in the place where she feels most at home.

Her brand is all about the sea - when the tide is in, she's out and when the tide is out, she's in.

That's just how she runs her business.

It's an incredible difference and I can't wait to reveal her new branding…

When you have a client who is so different, the branding work pretty much does itself

Here's an iconic photo of a current client who quite literally lives by the tide times

She has her own practice but when the tide's in she's out and when the tide's out, she's in

It's as simple as that

Does my firm need branding when we rely on word of mouth referrals?

This seems to be a common refrain when I speak to some accounting prospects "we don't need to worry about branding or marketing because we have a strong wom and referral network".

I think it's difficult to deny that referrals from a trusted connection or client aren't massively important in the professional services industry overall. A word from someone trusted is worth £000's potentially. Let's face it, if we are given a name, we are more disposed to trust the person or business. And that is a massive head start by all accounts.

So why do I bang on about branding then?

Warning: I know nothing about football !

But I do know about brands and how they can deliver on a promise

I also know brands who can use their name to become a massive club that not everyone can join

Yes, yes, that creates desirability, the designer and premium brands know about this

But it can also bring a sense of entitlement

How many have worked in a firm that has got "too big for its boots" and has failed to put its clients and people first?

There are lots of people leaving because of this and setting up a more caring and inclusive "club" that suits them and their desire to change the accounting sector

Does this seem an unlikely move for football at the moment when we've all experienced a year that requires us to come together?

Or is this a time where we all put our colours to the mast and set out on our own whatever form that takes?

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are among 12 clubs who agree to join a new European Super League.

Chicken or beef????

Would you invite your client to a BBQ?

This is my own accountant's brief to find the ideal client!

I'm obviously o.k. for a burger in his opinion!

But seriously, isn't this a great question to ask in the filtering process for your ideal client??

Creating your brand message and communicating that out in your marketing is obviously the way for attracting more like-minded individuals but a question to yourself like this when talking to them during the first consultation may just be a great idea.

Do you have any filtering questions that are slightly left field?

I don't have a question as such but if someone is relaxed enough to swear then they are the client for me!
