What does the future of gypsum manufacturing look like?

At Global Gypsum 2026 in Istanbul, the message was clear: the transition to lower-carbon manufacturing needs to make commercial sense too.

That means finding ways to reduce energy costs, improve resilience and develop better building materials - without compromising competitiveness.

We've shared our key takeaways from the conference, along with how Adaptavate's integrated bioenergy and wallboard technology could help manufacturers address these challenges together.

Can lower-carbon building materials create new commercial opportunities? 🌱

Tomorrow, 22 October, our Founder & CEO Tom Robinson will be speaking at the BMF Sustainability Forum in London.

His talk, “From Carbon to Commercial Value: Carbon-Negative Materials and the Merchant Opportunity,” will explore why reducing carbon isn't just an environmental consideration - it's also an emerging business opportunity for the construction supply chain.

From investment and innovation to the role of builders' merchants in bringing new materials to market, it's a conversation we're excited to be part of.

Following last week's Global Gypsum conference in Istanbul, we're continuing to explore how lower-carbon innovation can become a practical, commercially viable part of the future of construction.

What's next for the gypsum industry?

Wallboard producers are facing a growing set of challenges, from energy security and raw material supply to the need to reduce carbon emissions.

Now, Adaptavate is unveiling a drop-in technology designed to help manufacturers address these challenges using the production lines they already have.

In the latest issue of Global Gypsum Magazine, Tom Robinson, our founder and CEO, speaks with Peter Edwards about the thinking behind this new technology and the opportunities it could create for wallboard manufacturers.

Today we're announcing the completion of a ÂŁ4 million funding package, marking our transition from technology development into commercial deployment.

For more than a decade, we've been developing innovative construction products and industrial technologies with one goal: making lower-carbon construction commercially viable.

Along the way, we've learnt something important: developing better technologies is only part of the challenge. Creating practical, commercially viable ways for industry to adopt them is what enables real impact.

This funding marks the next phase of that journey. It will accelerate the commercial deployment of our technology platforms through licensing and international manufacturing partnerships, while supporting our continued innovation across the wider Adaptavate portfolio.

The funding package combines support from the European Innovation Council (EIC), Innovate UK's Investor Partnerships Programme, alongside investment from existing and new shareholders, including Low Carbon Innovation Fund 3.

More importantly, it reflects growing confidence in Adaptavate's technologies, commercial strategy and long-term vision for the construction industry.

We're incredibly grateful to our investors, partners, customers and team for helping us reach this milestone. Ultimately, this is about helping more of the construction industry adopt better ways to build.

Good news: there's nothing exciting to report about Breathaboard's latest trial.

London has been turning up the heat, but Breathaboard is looking great on site at Legal & General's new headquarters.

And, as you can see, it's looking exactly as it should.
Flat. No drama.

Just boards doing exactly what boards are supposed to do. And honestly, that's the kind of boring we're looking for.

Breathaboard has been designed as a bio-based, drop-in alternative to conventional wallboard that meets industry performance standards.

The industry knows it needs to change. Construction is responsible for nearly 40% of global COâ‚‚ emissions and around a third of global waste.

But adopting new technologies has often come with a catch: different product manufacturing methods, high-capex to adopt them, or different installation techniques.

We think that trade-off is the wrong starting point. The technologies and materials that will actually shift the industry are the ones that are drop-in and easy to adopt.

Swipe to see how we're approaching it. 👉

Behind every trial, partnership, and milestone are the people who make it happen day after day.

Today we want to shine a light on the researchers, engineers, thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers working together every day to move our mission forward.

A team developing and deploying the technologies that make planet-positive building materials a reality.

This one’s for them. 🖤
