Spotted this unusual beauty by the river last week. Lathraea clandestina - purple toothwort, a parasitic plant. It has no leaves and therefore no chlorophyll so draws food from the roots of trees such as Salix using suckers known as hausteria. Lovely Lords and ladies alongside for bonus botanical interest.

Very excited to announce my new website!

It's been an enjoyable journey browsing through photos of the many gardens I've had the privilege of designing and planting over the last 10 years. Lovely to be able to share more of these in the Portfolio.

It's a great time of year to make plans for your garden. Whether it's a planting refresh or a total makeover, I offer a variety of garden design services to help turn your outdoor space into that place you want to be in.

Take a browse!

I've been planning a few catch ups with gardens I designed over the last couple of years with hopes of taking some good photos of the maturing planting. This is very much a family garden but the Mum loves plants and was keen to marry the two requirements. I think these photos show how well this garden is being used now, even if paddling pools aren't the most instagrammable feature! I'm especially pleased with the bike and bin store taking up as small a footprint as possible.

A happy accident has resulted in this self-seeded Sycamore making a lovely combination with the Coral-barked Maple behind. The leaf petiole of the Sycamore is a great match for the stems of the Acer. Sadly this isn't one to stay otherwise the border would become a wood!
Some other combinations that I did plan in the same borders:
Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku', Pittosporum 'Tom Thumb' and Hakonechloa macra 'Aureola'
A.'Sango-kaku' and Euphorbia x martini
Bergenia 'Baby doll' and H. macra 'Aureola'
A. ' Sango-kaku', Hydrangea ' Strong Annabel' and Geranium 'Rozanne'

Secret gardens. A most enjoyable afternoon in Clifton exploring the gardens behind the terraces . Magical to step through the gates and discover these gems. Cornwallis Crescent East and West, a trip down memory lane to my old hall of residence - Clifton Hill House and Bishop's House. Finishing off with a lovely Pimm's in the gardens of Richmond terrace (not shown).

Having fun with Irrigation this week. Despite more than doubling the width of these borders the mature trees on the boundary are leaving the soil incredibly dry. Driplines have been snaked through with efficient watering now controlled by timers. Thanks to for help with the design. The planting is establishing very well and the architectural elements are taking shape.
