Some bless you, others curse you, some will even assault you....You see people at their worst & best. You see life through to the end. You see people's capacity for love, courage, & endurance. You are lucky to make it to the toilet more than once in a shift, luckier still to get a break...It's International carers Week. I’m one of your so called UNSKILLED workers. I am a carer/support worker and I’m now in the frontline of corona virus. I’m looking after a vulnerable population, the same population that is high risk. To do MY unskilled job I have to have yearly training BY LAW, yes YOURS and your peers LEGISLATION, but IM UNSKILLED? I HAVE to know bylaw infection control BUT I’m UNSKILLED? I take care of people everyday, I check skin integrity but I’m UNSKILLED?I give medication daily, many of those are CONTROLLED but, Im UNSKILLED I’m the one that’s there when no one else is. Would you like me to take care of one of your loved ones? I would because I CARE, as do my fellow carers and that MR Johnson is a SKILL that can’t be trained with a university degree, it a DEGREE in humanity, we are probably more SKIlLLED because we do at least 50 jobs in one day in a life of being a support worker
All carers I’m with you and thank you for what WE do everyday as unskilled workers ###x

I'm fully vaccinated and boostered. No, I don't know "what's in it". Neither this vaccine or the ones I had as a child. Nor do I know what's in the 11 secret herbs and spices at KFC.

I also don't know exactly what's in Ibuprofen or any other painkiller-- they just treat my headaches & my pains.

I don't know what's in tattoo ink, botox and fillers, or every ingredient in my soap, shampoo or deodorants. I don’t know the long term effect of mobile phone use, or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at REALLY used clean foods and washed their hands.

There's a lot of things I don't know.

I do know one thing: life is short. Very short. And I, personally, still want to do things. I want to travel and hug people without fear, and find a little feeling of life "before".

Throughout my life I've been vaccinated against many diseases. Measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox, hepatitis, pneumonia, influenza, rotavirus, tetanus, pertussis. We trusted the science, and never had to suffer through or transmit any of those said diseases.

I'm vaccinated. Not to please the government. Not to make other people do it. But I don't want to:
* die from Covid-19
* clutter a hospital bed if I get sick
* not be able to hug my loved ones
* have to test routinely
* live my life in fear

Someone once said, “When you love someone with dementia you lose them more and more everyday. When they are diagnosed, when they go through different stages, when they go into care and when they die. ‘Rapidly shrinking brain’ is how doctors describe it. As the person’s brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They can eventually become bedridden, unable to move and unable to eat or drink.”
There will be people who will scroll by this message because dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has fought or is fighting a battle against Dementia.
To raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would appreciate it if my friends could put this on their page for today.
