💙 Carers Week 2026 💙

This week, from 8th–14th June, the nation comes together to recognise and celebrate unpaid carers – the incredible people who provide love, support, and care to family members, friends, and loved ones every single day.

At Visiting Angels North Devon and Cornwall, we want to make it clear that while Carers Week is a wonderful opportunity to shine a spotlight on carers, our appreciation for carers doesn’t begin and end this week. We value and celebrate carers every day of the year.

This week, however, we wanted to do something special for the unpaid carers we know who support our clients when we are not there. These remarkable individuals give their time, energy, compassion, and love without expecting anything in return. Their dedication makes an enormous difference to the lives of those they care for, and we know how deeply grateful their families and communities are for everything they do.

To show our appreciation, we’ve been out delivering flowers and thank-you cards to the unpaid carers we’re aware of as a small token of our gratitude. 🌷💐

We’d also like to give a huge shout-out to all the unpaid carers we may not know personally. You are doing an incredible job. Your kindness, patience, and commitment do not go unnoticed, and you should be immensely proud of the difference you make every day.

Most importantly, please remember that looking after yourself is just as important as looking after someone else. Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging, and nobody should feel they have to face those challenges alone.

Our door is always open. Whether you need a chat, a cup of tea, some advice, guidance, or simply someone to listen, we’re here for you. If you’re an unpaid carer and you’re struggling or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you to every unpaid carer across North Devon, Cornwall, and beyond. You are truly amazing. 💙

A huge thank you to the Inner Wheel of Bude Group for welcoming us so warmly to your meeting last night. 💙

It was a real pleasure to spend the evening with such a wonderful group of people and to have the opportunity to talk about the work Visiting Angels North Devon and Cornwall is doing, and how we’re supporting people across our local communities.

Everyone was incredibly welcoming, kind, and supportive, and we truly appreciated the chance to share our vision for delivering person-centred care that helps people live well at home.

It was also inspiring to hear about the incredible fundraising efforts the group has undertaken over the past 12 months. The dedication, generosity, and impact you have made for so many charities and worthy causes is remarkable, and it was a privilege to witness and celebrate those achievements with you.

We’re also delighted that our Managing Director, Hayley, will soon be joining this fantastic organisation as a member. We know she is looking forward to becoming part of such a caring and community-focused group.

Thank you again for such a special evening. We look forward to building more connections and supporting our local community together. 💙

💙 Supporting Accessible Communication Every Day 💙

At Visiting Angels North Devon and Cornwall, we recognise that everyone communicates differently. That’s why we’re committed to meeting the requirements of the Accessible Information Standard and ensuring that the people we support can express their needs, preferences, and choices in ways that work for them.

To help achieve this, we’ve developed our own personalised PECS-style communication cards. These visual aids can support clients who may have difficulties with verbal communication, memory, learning disabilities, dementia, autism, or other communication needs.

Our cards help individuals communicate everyday needs, routines, feelings, preferences, and important information more confidently and independently. They also support our Care Professionals in understanding and responding to each person’s unique needs, helping to deliver truly person-centred care.

By adapting the way we communicate, we’re helping to reduce barriers, promote independence, and ensure that every voice is heard.

Because great care isn’t just about listening—it’s about understanding. 💙

It's here. 🌟 Happy Carers Week 2026!

This year's national theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities, and it's one we feel deeply here at Cornwall Carers Service.

This year’s national theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, reflects our commitment to working with partners across Cornwall to recognise carers, understand their role, and make practical adjustments, while creating spaces where carers feel welcomed, connected and supported.

Cornwall is full of carers doing extraordinary things, quietly, every single day. This week is for every single one of them.

All week, we'll be sharing stories, information, and support for carers across Cornwall. And this Friday 12 June, we have something very special happening in Ladock.

Happy Carers Week 2026 to every carer in Cornwall. You are valued, you are seen, and you matter more than you know.

🌊 Happy World Oceans Day! 🌊

We are incredibly lucky to live and work beside the beautiful coastline of Devon and Cornwall. Today, we’re celebrating the ocean that brings so much beauty, peace, and enjoyment to our communities.

Let’s cherish and protect our amazing coastline for generations to come. 💙

Today, on D-Day, we pause to remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the men and women who helped secure our freedom on 6th June 1944.

Many of the older adults we support at Visiting Angels North Devon & Cornwall lived through the Second World War or grew up in its shadow. Their stories, experiences, and memories are a powerful reminder of the strength of a generation that endured so much.

As we commemorate the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, we honour those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who continue to inspire us with their resilience.

Lest we forget.
