Well, this was rather lovely to receive. šŸ„°
When I photograph a business, getting great images is obviously the goal. But how people feel while Iā€™m taking them matters just as much.
Most people arenā€™t naturally comfortable in front of a camera. They donā€™t need to be. Making the whole experience feel relaxed, enjoyable and effortless is very much part of my job.
So when Jakob, CEO of Broadlab, left me these kind words after photographing the team, I may have been just a little bit delighted. ā¤ļø

Product photography hits a little differently when the products were made by your daughter. ā¤ļø
These are the 2026 Christmas wreaths from Flowers by Izabel ā€” designed and handmade by Izzy, who at 17 is somehow managing to grow her floristry business alongside studying for her A-levels.
And when I say handmade, I mean handmade. She starts with a wire frame, builds the moss base, then cuts and attaches every piece of fresh fir and eucalyptus before wiring in all the details you see here.
There are three designs this year, each with a corresponding table arrangement, plus garlands available too.
So yes, I was the product photographer for this oneā€¦ but perhaps an ever so slightly biased one. šŸ˜‚

I said what I said šŸ˜¬šŸ˜‚

For me, family photography is at its best when thereā€™s space to move, play, wander off, mess about and forget about the camera for a while.

Being outdoors gives me all of that. Beautiful light, gorgeous backdrops and, most importantly, families behaving like themselves rather than feeling like they have to pose for me.

Does that mean you canā€™t get gorgeous family photographs in a studio? Of course not.

But give me a field, some lovely light and a family being themselves any day. ā¤ļø

Today they go back to school.
Theyā€™re now 13 and 17.
And yes, Iā€™m still putting up the bunting and cracking open the Prosecco.

Obviously I love them dearly.
Obviously Iā€™ve loved having them home.
Obviously Iā€™m absolutely delighted theyā€™re going back. šŸ˜‚

Pretty pictures are important.
But theyā€™re not why families come back.
These portraits are just one small part of the story. Over the years Iā€™ve had the privilege of photographing this beautiful family together too.
The biggest compliment I can receive isnā€™t someone booking once.
Itā€™s when they come back.
Because they know their child will be able to relax.ā€ØBecause nobody has to perform.ā€ØBecause the session feels more like spending an hour together than standing in front of a camera.
The photographs are simply what happens when people feel comfortable enough to be themselves.
And thatā€™s always been the part I care about most. ā¤ļø
