A recent system reorganisation in progress…

This CCTV and network installation had developed over time, leaving the recorder and associated equipment loose inside a cupboard.

As part of taking over and upgrading the system, the network equipment was relocated into a wall-mounted cabinet, with a managed PoE switch installed to provide the connections and power required by the cameras and access points.

The CCTV recorder was then moved to a separate, more accessible location within the property.

It isn’t simply about making equipment look tidier. A properly planned installation helps protect the equipment, improves ventilation and makes future testing, maintenance and upgrades much easier.

A little follow-up from Thursday's post...
Earlier in the week I shared the equipment ready to head out. Here's one of the finished results.
The new Hikvision PTZ camera is now installed and online as part of an ongoing network and CCTV upgrade. It's always satisfying seeing a project come together and knowing the client has a system that's ready for the next stage.

Another interesting day ahead at Rowan Systems.
This equipment is heading to a large farmhouse renovation where we'll be expanding and modernising the existing network and CCTV system.
The new Hikvision TandemVu PTZ is an interesting piece of technology. Rather than relying on the PTZ camera to constantly patrol or auto-track, the fixed wide-angle camera provides a permanent overview of the scene. If something of interest occurs, the PTZ can be directed straight to that location, allowing much closer inspection while still maintaining the wider view.
On larger rural properties, where driveways, yards and outbuildings cover a lot of ground, this approach can provide excellent situational awareness without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Looking forward to getting everything installed and seeing the finished system in action.

This CCTV camera didn't need replacing.
A client was experiencing intermittent camera dropouts and repeated system alerts. At first glance, it looked like a hardware fault.
After a full system health check, we found the camera itself was working correctly.
The real issue?
✔ Firmware updates overdue
✔ Communication settings required optimisation
✔ No replacement hardware needed
Following updates and configuration changes, the camera returned to stable operation and the alerts stopped.
It's a good reminder that CCTV systems aren't simply "fit and forget".
Regular maintenance helps identify issues before they become failures, improves reliability and can often save the cost of unnecessary equipment replacement.

Most CCTV systems don't fail overnight.
In many cases there are warning signs long before a camera goes offline completely. Firmware issues, storage warnings, network faults and intermittent device errors can often be identified and corrected before they become a bigger problem.
This week we were able to identify and resolve a developing camera fault before it resulted in a complete loss of coverage.
It's a good reminder that CCTV isn't just about installation. Ongoing maintenance, updates and monitoring help ensure your system is ready when it's needed most.

Not all Wi-Fi problems are caused by slow internet.
This architect-designed property had excellent Starlink speeds coming into the building — but internal structure, glass, steel and floor attenuation were severely affecting wireless coverage throughout the home.
