Feeling stuck in a job you hate? What if a layoff was the best thing that ever happened to you?

When Laurey got made redundant she realised she didn’t want to go back to teaching or journalism.

It was scary, but that ā€œlossā€ gave her the freedom to ask: What do I really want to do?

Exploring freelancing felt overwhelming at first, she’d never seriously considered it before.

But sometimes, a push, like redundancy, can be the wake-up call you need to go after your true dreams.

Maybe it’s time to consider what’s been on the back burner.

Listen to Laureys engaging story of balancing family life, a self employed career and all the ups and downs that comes from life changing decisions

Available on all platforms - 14th June

Most founder content focuses on what happened.

The fundraise.

The exit.

The growth curve.

The headline.

But the moments that shape a founder usually happen long before anyone is paying attention.

The difficult decisions.

The self-doubt.

The sacrifices.

The conversations nobody sees.

That’s what Beyond The Founder is about.

Not just building businesses, but understanding the people behind them.

Every founder has a story that extends beyond revenue, valuation and success metrics.

Behind every company is a human being navigating uncertainty, ambition, pressure and purpose.

My podcast exists to explore those stories.

The lessons learned the hard way.

The defining moments.

The failures that created growth.

The mindset shifts that changed everything.

Because entrepreneurship isn’t just about building something valuable.

It’s about becoming someone different in the process.

My mission is that every conversation leaves founders feeling a little less alone, a little more understood, and a little more prepared for the journey ahead.

The business may be what the world sees.

But the person behind it is where the real story lives.

I’m still grieving, but I want to show that even in life’s most difficult moments, it’s still possible to pursue what truly matters to you.

Dr Ian Cookson joined me in the studio today, and his story is one of resilience, reinvention, and hope.

After being made redundant and losing his mum, life changed dramatically. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and our conversation was filled with honesty, emotion, and reflection. I’m genuinely excited for his episode to go live at the end of this month.

Having spent 30 years working as a printer, Ian could see the industry changing around him. He knew something had to change.

Through online assessments, books, and a meaningful conversation with his auntie, he experienced what can only be described as a full-circle moment.

As a child, he loved sport. As he got older, he developed two powerful qualities: empathy and compassion.

Now, he’s combining those strengths with his passion for sport by training to become a sports psychologist.

His dream? To one day become the sports psychologist for his boyhood club, Preston North End, and help them on their journey back to the Premier League.

How amazing is that?

This was a powerful conversation about loss, purpose, and having the courage to start again. I truly believe it will bring a lot of value to anyone who listens.

Keep an eye out for this episode at the end of the month, you won’t want to miss it.

Do you remember what it felt like to be truly alive? That sense of purpose mixed with childlike wonder?

Here's the thing, our purpose isn’t just about work or responsibilities, it’s about connecting with that inner child who reminds us to wonder, laugh and play. When we let go of seriousness, we tap into true vitality.

Children are masters of this, effortlessly curious and unafraid to be silly.

Maybe that’s the real secret to feeling more alive.Worth pondering, when was the last time you let yourself just have fun?

I didn’t start this podcast for the likes, the money, or the status.

I started it because I genuinely believe in the power of conversation, connection, and sharing stories that can help someone else see things differently.

Of course, if it evolves into a business model one day and I believe it has the potential to, I’ll put the same energy and focus into building it.

But right now, that’s not the reason I’m doing it.

Right now, I’m enjoying every conversation.

I’m grateful for the guests who reach out and want to be part of the show. And I’m continually inspired by the stories being shared.

What has surprised me most is the impact it’s already having. Messages from people who have listened, taken something away, or found value in a story they needed to hear at the right time.

That’s what matters.

So regardless of where this journey leads, I’ll keep showing up, keep creating space for meaningful conversations, and keep serving through the platform.

Because if one story can change a perspective, inspire action, or help someone through a difficult season, it’s already worth it

.official from Australia goes deep into her story on our podcast šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗšŸ‘€

ā€˜I grew up on a small country farm in regional Australia.

From my earliest memories, I felt different.

Not in a way I could explain just in the way that some people carry a knowing that their life is for something, without yet having any evidence of what that something is. I did not fit the boxes. I felt too much, thought too differently, cared too deeply about things the people around me had not yet named.

Later in life I received clarity around autism and ADHD. That awareness was not a diagnosis I grieved. It was a translation finally understanding why I had always been built differently, and beginning to understand that differently built minds are often built for different kinds of empires.

But before I arrived at any of that, I walked through the dark.

Sexual abuse. Identity collapse. Suicidal ideation. The particular kind of pain that comes from carrying a calling you cannot yet see how to fulfill and beginning to believe, in the silence, that you never will.

What pulled me out was not a strategy.

It was a decision quiet, irreversible, made in the dark to live for something larger than the pain. To choose the vision even without the evidence. To walk by faith before I had any proof the path existed.

That decision changed the trajectory of everything.

By 22 I was CEO and helped build my family’s property development business into a multi-8-figure, award-winning operation.’
