A quick update…Ros and I have absolutely loved our time Creating Connections together. It is with sadness that we will be pausing our sessions indefinitely due to my (Naomi’s!) crazy home life. I strongly believe in the power of networking, at the moment, however, I need to focus on my boys. This is an Au Revoir…until we meet again, rather than a goodbye. With huge love, Naomi and Ros ###

Raising a child with ADHD, autism, or sensory challenges comes with unique joys and challenges.

Often, emotional outbursts, frustration, and overwhelm take center stage. Could a natural solution make a difference?

Over the past 2 years, I’ve worked with 25 families and 30 children, using Bach Flower Remedies to ease the emotional challenges of ADHD and neurodiverse tendencies.

These remedies work gently, addressing the traumas, frustrations, and guilt that can accompany such conditions.

🌸Star of Bethlehem has been especially useful in healing trauma which has occurred so often - whether from birth or other life events.

🌼For feelings of frustration and impatience, Impatiens helps children find calm.

🌺In moments of overwhelm, Elm provides support, while Cherry Plum assists in balancing emotions during outbursts.

🏵For children who feel guilt after lashing out, Pine gently eases their emotional burden.

Parents have reported incredible transformations: reduced meltdowns, smoother school transitions, and happier, calmer children. One mother shared how her son attended and enjoyed his birthday party for the first time!

On Christmas day I was reduced to tears by the joy that my families were experiencing for the first time! Christmas days all together with siblings playing together - Never happened before.

While the remedies may not be the only solution, they can provide relief and emotional balance, creating a calmer environment for children and their families.

I am frequently asked what are Bach Flower Remedies so here is a potted history.

It is a natural therapy developed in the 1930s by Dr. Edward Bach, a British physician and homeopath. These remedies are based on the principle that emotional balance can help aid our overall health. The remedies use the essence of flowers to address specific emotional states.

Each remedy is made from the essence of a specific flower or plant, which is diluted in water and preserved with alcohol or glycerine.

The remedies are intended to help balance emotions such as fear, anxiety, sadness, anger, or indecision.
Dr. Bach put the remedies into seven groups, targeting specific emotional states.
✅Fear
✅Uncertainty
✅Insufficient interest in the present moment
✅Loneliness
✅Over-sensitivity to influences and ideas
✅Despondency or despair
✅Over-care for the welfare others

There are 38 individual specific remedies, each associated with a specific emotion.
✅Mimulus - for fear of the known
✅Aspen - for fear of the unknown
✅Rock Rose for terror
Remedies are taken orally, either directly from the dropper bottle or diluted in water.
They are considered safe for all ages, with children we use the glycerine based remedies, and can even be used for animals and plants.

Dr. Bach believed that addressing negative emotions could unlock the body's natural ability to heal itself.
The remedies are not a substitute for conventional medicine but work well as a complementary therapy to support emotional balance.

There is no scientific basis for the work of the remedies, and many will say that they work with the placebo effect - however having worked with children and animals there are also other thoughts.

I believe the proof is the pudding - if you give them to an animal and they are better then they have had a benefit!

Many users will tell you that they do feel better with the remedies.

Facts for a Friday

In 1930 Edward Bach saved a fisherman's life with Rescue Remedy, the only combination formula in the system. Since then it has indirectly been a lifesaver for many people all over the world.

The formula is as follows:-

Star of Bethlehem is for the trauma and shock
Rock Rose for sheer terror - the flight and fright mode.
Impatiens to help restore your patience and relieve frustrations
Cherry Plum to calm the fear of losing control of your emotions.,
and finally Clematis to heighten your focus and attention to detail and bring you back to reality.

Within a few minutes of taking this remedy you will feel the benefits and feel a sense of relaxation, and calm and readiness for anything that can happen, it calms without panic, helps to ease Shock.

Rescue remedy comes in many formats, as a cream to help small shocks to the skin, sprain, cuts and sudden rashes and many other skin conditions. The Rescue Cream contains Crab Apple in addition to the other 5 remedies.

There is also the Night Rescue Remedy - if you are struggling with sleep then you may find this useful. For me it is an invaluable item in the first aid kit. The addition of White Chestnut is there to stop the unwanted thoughts and mind monkeys - thus helping you to have a beautiful nights sleep.

Rescue remedy should never be used on a regular basis - if you are taking it everyday then maybe you consider having a specific blend of remedies to help you.

Rescue remedy can be used externally on bandages and compresses as well.

Rescue remedy is also very effective in helping revive plants and animals - for animals you can add between 2-10 drops of rescue remedy to water or food at times of trauma.

Plants can also have a couple of drops to help them to revive them.

Rescue Remedy can also be really helping with period pains, colic, boils, migraine and similar problems if its taken as soon as the first symptoms are displayed.

I hope that this helps and you may be able to add a new item to your home first aid kit.

Take care - if you have any questions please let me know xx

For some reason getting up this morning was tough!! I slept through my alarm at 5.30 and 6 and eventually hauled myself out of bed at 6.45.

The first full day of proper work - although to be fair I did work 2 days last week - I felt if the rest of the world was still on holiday.
How are you feeling - did you bounce of bed full of energy and ready to start the day?

I am thankful we don't have snow because that would have kept me in bed!

Its been a tough start to the year as Mum has taken a turn for the worse and the bulk of the weekend has been spent with her, sitting with and talking and reading to her. Helping her to eat and just being there.

Her final days are sadly numbered and she is exceedingly frail, but she seems to have incredible strength to keep going, seeing David yesterday brought a huge smile to her face.

Sadly she was asleep when the children went yesterday morning.
I am using almost all of the remedies I have available to keep me balanced emotionally, but when one of the care staff gave me a hug last night I have to confess I cracked! We are all human.

I sincerely hope your Monday 6th and new start are kind to you and you getting things together in the way you would wish.

Call me if you need help I am still working

How was your Christmas and New Year?

Here is a space for you to tell us how you are feeling now it is over?

Are you relieved?

Are you feeling positive going into the New Year or are you feeling a little despondent? Not always easy but let see how we go.

For us it has been a lovely time, a time for great understanding, learning and listening, we have done some very different things.

We spent Christmas with the family and friends and it was beautiful but I sadly feel my age!!

We have missed our little dog incredibly, bless him - he was always very special at this time of the year. We are however happy to have decided not to replace him.

We spent longer with mum this year, she is exceedingly frail and I feel that this will be her last Christmas, she is sadly not well at all, but we were able to pop in and out and just be there for her and sit. There is no conversation anymore.

New years eve - as ever was a quiet one - this year we were on our own and had an early night and did the prep for a special lunch with special friends on New Years Day - a great time had by all and now we are back to work!!!

I was reflecting today on 2024 and ultimately we have a good year, we have achieved a lot, despite the ups and downs of David's eye problems all in all we are in a good place. We have had some wonderful holidays and really had some great times.

We have made some sensible decisions and looked carefully at the future but we are comfortable and looking forward to a new year.

My work will continue, David will continue with Sage, and I would like to do more - it brings such great joy and fun.

Remedies by Ros continues to thrive and grow and Hormones on the Blink is also planned to rise further so there is much to look forward to.

What do you reflect on? What plans do you have for 2025?

Some interesting thoughts of New Year traditions.

First Footing

The origins of First footing are a little vague, however there may be a connection to the Viking invasion of the UK, it was thought then that the arrival of a blond stranger at your door would cause fear and alarm.

Whenever a public ritual is suppressed, many continue it at another date, First footing is the process of bringing coal and knocking on doors and a group singing of Auld Lang Syne to pass from the old to the new within the Celtic new year.

Fuel was gathered and food collecting and then a first would be lit to welcome the crossing into the new year.

There are many variations on first footing depending where in the world you live, but in essence the traditions seems to be a tall dark-haired male is preferred, the guest is expected to bring symbolic gifts and should be given food and drink in return by the inhabitants of the house they visit. If they come empty handed it is thought to bring bad luck.

They should bring either a silver coin shortbread or a black bun, salt, coal and a drink which is usually whisky. These gifts represent prosperity, food, flavour, warmth for the house and good cheer.

This tradition continues strongly in Scotland and in parts of northern England and also predominantly in the Isle of Man.

I also came across this in Greece when I lived out there – great care was taken as to who came into the house first on New Years Day. Here it is called “pothariko” and it is believed that the first person to enter the house on New Years day brings either good or bad luck.

Many households to this day keep this tradition and specially select the person who comes in first. After the first footer has come in the lady of the house will serve guests with Christmas treats and gives them an amount of money to ensure that good luck will come in the new year. In many villages in Greece to this day this is still carried on.
Did you know anything about first footing?

New Years Food

Do you eat anything traditional food on New Year Eve or Day? Have a look at this beautiful selection of food around the world.

In Mexico, they celebrate with a sweet dish called Brunuelos, crispy fritters covered with syrup and served on a ceramic dish. After you have eaten the dish the key part is that you want a New Year wish to come true you will need to smash the ceramic plate against the wall or ceiling. This is associated with breaking with the past and moving onto new things in the year to come.

In South Korea the people think themselves one year older on the New Year, rather than on their individual birthdays. Eating a traditional soup called Tteoguk is essential part of celebrating that new year.

This hot soup is made of broth, rice cakes and a mixture meat and vegetables. It is often topped with eggs, spring onions and roasted seaweed. It was thought to bring good luck.

In Germany, pigs represent money and good fortune. If you want to have a prosperous and lucky year, you can add pork to your dinner or, alternatively snack on sugar pigs.

Glucksschweins are small, pig-shaped treats made of sweetened almond paste ad they are a common New Years eve gift.

In Austria as in Germany the Pig is a good luck symbol, Austrians traditionally serve roasted suckling pig called on New Years eve. They call the dish Sylvesterabend after Saint Sylvester. They also have the Sugared pigs as well.

Lentils are a really important part of many New Year Celebrations, including Italy and Mexico. In Italy, they serve Lentils alongside pork sausage and the lentils symbolize future wealth.

In Mexico some people place lentils on their doorsteps or carry the beans in their pockets to bring good luck on New Year’s eve.

In Greece they serve Vasilopita is a traditional Greek cake served at midnight on New Years Eve to celebrate the life of Saint Basil. When the cake is baked a coin is inserted through the base and when cut the person who finds the coin is said to be granted luck for the rest of the year.

What will you will you be eating for New Years Eve - do you have a special menu?
