Referrals will come naturally, as the other attendees at meetings get to know you and trust you. Only then are they likely to refer your business to their clients, friends and associates. Are you new to networking, unsure of what to do, or nervous and apprehensive about attending? Don’t worry, our Group Directors are on hand to help – to greet you, introduce you to others, and give you guidance on some of the dos and don’ts of networking. They will help you to become a great networker. EBN membership is a valuable resource, and is one of the most cost effective ways of getting to the heart of the business community. Remember:

People buy people; if you are willing to help others, they will help you. If you are serious about networking and wish to develop relationships with people who you know and can trust, without any of the pressures that are associated with some groups, come along and give us a try. A lovely chat is a lovely chat.

If you want it to become a business relationship, somebody has to do the next bit.

Send the introduction you offered. Book the coffee. Share the useful link. Ask a better question than “Do you need my services?”

At EBN, relationships come before referrals. That means getting to know how someone works, who they help and when you'd feel confident putting their name forward.

The meeting gives you a place to start. What you do between meetings helps build the trust.

Ever spent three days wrestling with something another business owner could have explained in ten minutes?

A pricing decision. A difficult client conversation. A system that makes sense to everyone except you.

We can get so used to figuring everything out ourselves that we forget to ask.

This is part of the value of building a network: getting to know people whose knowledge and experience are different from yours. Hearing a question you hadn't thought to ask. Finding somebody who has already made the mistake you're about to make.

It doesn't replace expert advice. It can help you work out where to start.
