Please stop apologising because your books are a mess!

I've spoken to business owners who are embarrassed to contact a bookkeeper because they've fallen behind, don't understand their accounts, or quite frankly, their books are a s**t hot mess
I don't care!

Your year end is NOT the time to discover 12 months of s**t bookkeeping

But that's exactly when a lot of problems finally come to light.

Your accountant check your accounts and finds:

❌ Transactions coded incorrectly
❌ VAT errors
❌ Missing invoices
❌ Unreconciled accounts
❌ Things posted where they absolutely shouldn't be

And now they have to unravel it all at their busiest time of year, alongside approximately 12548 other clients. 😂

This is why having a bookkeeper throughout the year matters.

I'm regularly reconciling, checking transactions and questioning things that don't look right.

£15 an hour for a qualified, experienced bookkeeper?

I've just paid £404 for my annual AAT licence and membership fees

Coincidentally, I was also recently asked to submit details of my services, experience and pricing to a potential client.

The response?

They wanted a bookkeeper with my experience and qualifications… but for £15 per hour.

Seriously?! WTF🤦‍♀️

For context, £15 per hour on a 40-hour week is £600 a week — before tax, National Insurance, pension, holidays, sickness or any of the costs involved in actually running a professional bookkeeping business.

Before I work a single billable hour for a client, I pay for:

• AAT licence & membership

• AML supervision

• ICO registration

• Professional Indemnity Insurance

• Software, training and ongoing CPD

• And all the other costs that come with running a compliant business

My rate is around £35 per hour

You're not just paying for the hour I spend doing your bookkeeping. You're paying for my experience, qualifications, professional standards, compliance and the peace of mind that your books are being looked after properly

So if somebody is offering professional bookkeeping for £15 an hour, perhaps ask yourself how they're managing to do it

Because if it doesn't walk like a duck and it doesn't quack like a duck… 🦆

It probably isn't a duck (How many times did my phone auto correct to something else here!)

Good bookkeeping has value. And getting it wrong can cost considerably more than getting it done properly in the first place.

Nothing bookkeeping related, but an emotional Mum post....

Last week was an emotional Mum moment. The graduation of my eldest Daughter. Seeing her in cap & gown made me cry happy, proud tears!!

Watching my kids flourish and find their path in life is my biggest achievement yet.

So for now, who cares about bookkeeping - Have a pic of my beautiful daughter 😂

Of course I care really......
