Here at Midland Alarm Services Ltd we have been providing security and safety to thousands of homes and businesses throughout the UK since 1987. We understand the needs of the security-conscious householder and business owner. We can design, maintain and update a system to protect you and your family or business. When we started the business 30 years ago security systems were very different than they are today. Our highly trained team deliver bespoke solutions to both homes and businesses from design and upgrade to installation and maintenance, using a range of wireless electronic systems. In the early 1990s, we started working with the regions housebuilders: Cala Homes, Persimmon and Charles Church to name but a few. The partnership with these housebuilders demanded the highest quality security systems on the market; a practice we’ve continued to this day with every alarm we now fit. These include HKC Quantum 70 and Visonic Powermaster range. The security market is ever-evolving, so we go beyond simply installing and maintaining a security system. Our job is to provide bespoke consultancy and advice to our customers and support them from quote to installation and providing maintenance when needed. Your house alarm is set, but is your garage covered too?

Bikes, tools and garden equipment can add up to quite a lot, so it's worth including your garage when you think about home security.

A PIR sensor detects movement inside the garage and can be linked to your wireless alarm. You could also upgrade to a camera PIR, which takes pictures when it's triggered so you can see what caused the alert.

We recently visited a home where the alarm had been fitted by another company years ago and wasn't being regularly serviced.

An older alarm doesn't always need replacing. We can often take over its servicing or upgrade the parts that need attention, and keep what still works well.

Depending on the system, an upgrade could add app control, new sensors or perimeter protection. We'll give you honest advice on what's worth keeping. Sometimes a service is all it needs.

With half term coming up, this week we've been helping a family who decided now was the time to add a video doorbell to their existing alarm before going away.

It gives them a view of visitors, deliveries and activity at the front door while they're away. The SecureComm app also lets them check whether their alarm is set and get an alert if it's triggered.

Leaving lights on timers and arranging for someone to collect deliveries are useful steps too.

The clocks go back on the 25th of October. Is your home ready?

Darker evenings mean more of the day spent in the dark, and more cover for anyone trying doors and windows.

We recently fitted perimeter protection and CCTV for a homeowner who wanted extra peace of mind over the winter. Shock sensors on the doors and windows pick up an attempted break-in before anyone gets inside, and the alarm sounds straight away.

You can set the perimeter while you're at home in the evening. You're protected, and no sensors go off as you move around the house.

The CCTV covers the outside of the home after dark. Through the EZView app, they can watch live footage and check recordings from their phone, so if the alarm does go off, they can see what's happening.

Before fitting an alarm recently, we chatted to our customer about what happens if it's triggered while they're away.

They liked that a monitored burglar alarm sends an alert to their phone through the SecureComm app. They can check which sensor was triggered, see whether the alarm is set and decide what to do next.

Last week, we spoke to a homeowner who was unsure whether CCTV or a video doorbell would be the better choice for their property.

Both allow you to see what is happening around your home, but they provide different levels of coverage. A video doorbell focuses on the front door, visitors and deliveries, while CCTV can cover wider areas such as the driveway, side access and rear garden.

Some homeowners begin with one and add the other later as their security needs change.
