Afternoon,

I am looking for someone to undertake a full compartmentation survey on a care home. It has been extended over the years and is currently subject to improvement notice from the fire service. It is a 48 bedroom home over 3 floors. It is based near Swindon Wiltshire.

Fire extinguishers are only useful if they are ready to use when needed.

A simple monthly user check can help spot obvious issues before they become a problem. It does not replace annual servicing by a competent person, but it is an important part of good fire safety management.

Basic user checks should include:

✅ Is the extinguisher in the correct place?
✅ Is it visible and easy to access?
✅ Is the safety pin fitted and tamper seal intact?
✅ Is there any damage, corrosion or leakage?
✅ Is the hose or horn in good condition?
✅ Are the instructions clear and readable?
✅ Is the pressure gauge, where fitted, in the green zone?
✅ Does it appear full and unused?
✅ Is the service label present and in date?

These checks should be carried out monthly, after any use, and if an extinguisher has been moved, knocked or tampered with.

If you find a defect, report it and arrange for it to be checked.
