Deer are my main passion. But the thrill of spearfishing gives a completely different feeling. The reward of outsmarting wild animals, getting lucky being in the right place at the right time and learning new techniques and locations makes it very addictive. The bonus? Unreal seafood with a completely open story. Highlights so far this year have to be the 67cm seabass, 42 cm mullet, cuttlefish and some decent spider crabs, much earlier than this time last year. I’ve also picked my first brown crabs, but returned when measured undersize. Next mission, flatties. Bring it on 🐠🐟🦑🦀🦞🧜🏼‍♂️

Another season done. The relief for this one to end was larger than most. Two windows of disruption, one fi****ms related and one external process. The external process break taught me some valuable lessons, mostly that certain “industry leaders” aren’t quite what they seem from the outside. And that HR departments are things to avoid in future. That being said, it’s been a wonderful season from a deer point of view. Looking forward to seeing what next August brings, who I meet on this deer rollercoaster in the meantime, and what I can learn next. As always a massive thank you to those around me. Rum time 🦌🥃

The end of what has felt like a long season. I realise I have been very quiet with posts on here. A few reasons, falling out of love with Insta slightly, spending 6 weeks as part of a process which took me out of my day to day, and being so busy not having time to photograph significant events. April should bring some clarity, and some more interesting photos. Lessons learned from this season? Trust your instinct. Work your ass off. Stick to your morals. Grateful as ever to those around me. Go well everyone….

And just like that, Christmas madness is over. I don’t want to know how many hours I’ve spent chasing deer, cutting, packing and delivering them over the last 10 days, but it’s done. Incredibly lucky to have the wonderful customers I do, the support from those around me and the advice of some people I couldn’t do without. To one and all, thank you, and a very happy Christmas. I hope my small window into the world of deer management hasn’t bored you all too much, hopefully more to come in 2022. Have a well earned break, however long that manages to be 🎄🎉

A flat out start to the season was great, but the last six weeks I’ve been quiet. Quiet because of a fi****ms department on their knees. A variation that took six weeks to turn around, with a great deal of bugging and pushing. Been at my wits end at times, but I’m back. Tooled up, and ready to catch up on things. So ready to be back flat out again 🦌 ****ms

Day off deer with didn’t stay deer free for long on our dog walk, with the wild fallow rutting now around here. Snuck through the trees to get closer to this majestic buck. Could smell him from this distance, plenty others around and with him

Fallow rut 2021. Sometimes you’ve got to put the rifle down and grab the camera. In between finding wild fallow prickets and sika spikers, these boys stood proud on their stands. Slow to get going, but they are getting stinkier by the day, drawing the girls in….🐽

This season so far has shown, what I suspect is the national picture, on the grounds I manage. Larger populations and more deer moving through. Woodlands showing more signs of deer. I’ve been very lucky to have special moments in these woods, like this stand off with a sika hind and calf. Shooting deer is only part of the job, moments like this is what makes it a story

Having had what seems like a week away from it, suddenly the season is back here. 100% ready to get cracking with supply again now, with the completion of the two summer projects. Huge thanks to for the shiny new floor just in time to get going. Slight extension to the chiller, re designed layout of tables and things should flow smoothly through here now. Time to catch up with some wild fallow 🦌
