A rare weekend off!! No events, no riding horses, just actually being able to get stuff done at the house.

A massive thanks to Ashley and my parents for getting things back under control after several weeks of nothing being done in the garden. As usual it’s the people behind the scenes that make the biggest difference. Without the support of the people, irrespective of how big any event is, very little would get done. I say raise a glass to all the in named people working behind the scenes keeping normal life going for those arranging the events.

As always I’m eternally grateful for the support from everyone at home.

The morning after the day (and night!) before. The Dalbeattie Civic Daze guys and girls have made a fantastic job of clearing up all the debris from yesterday. Without the likes of these guys doing this, these events simply wouldn’t be able to go ahead year after year. Keep up the great work guys.

Long time since I’ve managed to get a post up, but we are still here doing our thing. Today we are ready for the first ever official Dalbeattie Riding Of The Marches. Slightly different role today though as I have the rescue box on just incase something happens and a horse needs to be taken back to its own box. We are also providing comms cover and assisting their own volunteer Marshalls for this event.

Really hoping this turns out to be a new annual event.

Safe oot, safe in to all riders today.

We were at an event today and it reminded me of just how close we can be to danger. I won’t name the event, and what happened was absolutely no fault of the organisers whatsoever.

While waiting for the evening part of today’s event quite a few locals came out of the pub and on to the street. Nothing unusual about that, but within minutes all hell broke out. Thankfully police were on site very quickly, but none the less one of our volunteers was caught up in the middle of it. Thankfully he was not hurt whatsoever and once he was able to returned to the rest of us. The police did what they do and detained some of the people responsible. Minutes later however, a repeat fight broke out further up the road. Yet again the police did what they do and dealt with it. At this point I thought great. Let’s get on with the actual planned entertainment. A couple of hours pass and thankfully I’ve we had police back within the vicinity, yet another fight broke out. This was very quickly moved away from the massed crowds and dealt with up a side street. This then led to ALL the police having to take the detained back to the station to process them. This then left our group as the sole providers for protection. We were spread thin enough on the ground as it was, and due to this certain bus drivers decided to move the road closed signs and cones and come up the closed off high street. This stupidity of the driver actually ended up putting a lot of people in danger as without the signs and cones in place, car drivers also ended up trying to access the closed off area. As we have no legal right to close roads off, we were left in the situation of what do we do. Thankfully after a talking to a lot of the drivers moved out of the area and I did put the signs and cones back out.

Essentially what I’m saying is, due to the selfish acts of those fighting, this removed our police presence and actually put a few thousand people in danger.

Please if you are heading out to events, drink responsibly and enjoy the day.

A massive thank to Police Scotland Dumfries & Galloway officers for sorting things out.

Even on a weekend off from events, we end up at an event! This time however it was YouthBeatz Dumfries and it was nice to be the customer! A great day out today with Louisa, and then joined later on by the other 2.

A great night was had at the very first Dalbeattie Riding Of The Marches ball/ ceilidh last night. A huge congratulations to Connor Donowho and Laura Penman, and the whole team involved for putting in a great evening of entertainment. I’m fairly sure there will be a few sore heads this morning!

With this, here is hoping to a great future for this brand new Riding of the Marches for the area, continuing on the tradition for generations to come.

I will be there in a supporting way this year, looking to see where we as a unit may be able to offer assistance, but also there to pick up the pieces incase somebody comes off a horse!

On that note, again a massive thank you for the entertainment last night, and here’s to the future!

Coming soon….

….. DGRU Event Support on horseback! 🤣🤣🤣

It was great fun taking part in the Dumfries Cornets Club Dumfries town ride out this evening.

Only just over a week to go until Dumfries Guid Nychburris Day where myself, Izzy, Loulou and Connor Donowho are riding again.

It’s a pleasure riding with my kids, Connor and all the other riders celebrating the tradition of our area.
