🏫 THE SOLWAY SCHOOL RUN – WE NEED YOUR HELP 🏫

This July, in collaboration with The Jolly Harvester and Queen of the South FC Community Trust, Richie, Craig, James and Team are lacing their boots back up and walking over 90 miles, the width of Dumfries & Galloway, from Portpatrick all the way to Langholm... in just 3 days. (AND not going near Criffel!!!). The team will be self sufficient, carrying their tents and sleeping equipment for the duration..

This isn't just a walk. It's a statement.

💙 No child should walk through the school gates feeling less than any other 💙

Right now, families across our region are facing an impossible choice, pay the bills or buy a school uniform. And when a child turns up without the right kit, they feel it. Their classmates notice. And that feeling? It sticks.

Every child deserves to start school on equal footing.

Same uniform. Same PE kit. Same chance. That's why we're doing this.

📍 22nd, 23rd & 24th July
🚶 Portpatrick → Newton Stewart → Dumfries → Langholm
👟 90+ miles. 3 days. All for the kids.

Your donation, whether it's £5 or £50 goes directly towards school uniforms, PE kit, and essential items for children and families who need it most in Dumfries & Galloway.

No child left behind. No child left out.

Massive thanks to the Team at Walton Secure and The Jolly Bar & Restaurant for backing this cause and helping us make it happen. 🙌

Our CCTV Tower Did Its Job Last Night — And Then Some.
Late on 31st March, intruders entered one of our client's sites illegally. What happened next is exactly why we do what we do.

✅ Our CCTV tower detected the intruders immediately
✅ Sirens activated, making it crystal clear they'd been spotted
✅ The Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) verbally challenged them in real time
✅ Police were dispatched and attended the scene

The result? The intruders fled. Nothing was stolen. Nothing was damaged.

Whilst it's frustrating they evaded capture on the night, the outcome speaks for itself. A protected site, zero losses, and a very clear message sent to anyone thinking about targeting our clients.

This is the power of proactive security. Not just recording crime after the fact, actively deterring it as it happens.

If your site is currently unprotected or relying on static cameras alone, let's have a conversation. 👇

The Crichton Trust has recently enhanced estate security and environmental stewardship through the deployment of one of our market leading fully solar-powered AI CCTV tower from Walton Secure, delivering 24/7 off-grid surveillance, perfectly in line with their ESG commitments.

The system operates ENTIRELY on renewable energy, removing the need for generators, reducing carbon emissions, and minimising environmental impact while maintaining continuous protection. Combining advanced AI detection with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), the solution enables proactive monitoring of vehicle movements, identification of repeat offenders, and real-time intervention to deter anti-social behaviour such as unauthorised vehicle activity. In addition, integrated TRASHCAM technology links environmental incidents directly to vehicles, providing evidential data to support enforcement action and reduce fly-tipping across the estate.

This intelligent, sustainable approach not only strengthens safety and operational oversight but also demonstrates The Crichton Trust’s commitment to responsible land management, carbon reduction, and creating a cleaner, safer environment for the community.

CCTV UPGRADE

A big thanks to Phoenix Secure for revamping our security cameras in our store - It’s an excellent system!

We’ve already got some really good footage of a young lad who slipped a can of energy drink into his pocket before leaving the store. It seems he forgot to see our staff at the counter.

Hopefully he’ll see sense soon and pop back and pay, or else the appropriate action will be taken 😄

We’ve a cracking picture of him if anyone wants to see… any future employers maybe?

Well done Richie Nicoll - Looking forward to the finals!

Please welcome Richie Nicoll who is a finalist at the Scottish Veterans Awards.

I served 7 years with the Royal Signals, finishing my time as an Advanced ECM Operator attached to 521 Sqn, 11 EOD Regiment in Edinburgh. Being shortlisted as role model of the Year for me is crazy and am blown away to be held in that steed by the judges. I am passionately proud to be a Veteran and extremely passionate to also support fellow veterans, which has led me to being asked to set up the 'Dumfries Veterans NAAFI Break, aligned with National Education Scotland, COSLA and Scottish Government’s National Trauma Framework (2017) vision to develop a trauma informed and responsive nation.

When asked about my biggest achievement to date, this has to be being asked to be the inaugural Chair of Dumfries Town Board. Dumfries Town Board was created as part of the UK Government’s £1.5 billion Long-Term Plan for Towns. The purpose of which is to drive ambitious plans to regenerate 95 towns around the United Kingdom over the long-term. Each chosen town is to receive a 10-year endowment-style fund with £20 million of funding and support to give towns long term certainty to deliver projects over multiple years and the flexibility to invest in interventions based on evolving local needs and priorities. Being asked to run this board, by the people, for the people was a huge honour.

Having returned back from working in Iraq, I am now employed as the Commercial Director of Walton Secure. Walton Secure are a market leading Off-Grid CCTV supplier, based in Dumfries, but with customers throughout the UK and Middle East. We provide a range of Solar Powered CCTV systems, engineered to operate from the darkest of Scottish Winters to the harshest of Iraqi Summers. Each system being different, we take pride in offering completely bespoke solutions to our clients

Good luck Richie and to all the amazing finalists.

We can't wait to celebrate your success on the night itself.

🚨 Rise in Fuel Thefts Across Scotland 🚨

Police Scotland prevention teams have highlighted a significant increase in fuel thefts, linked to rising fuel prices.

Criminals are targeting heating oil tanks, vehicle fuel tanks, farm storage and construction site fuel supplies – often in remote or poorly monitored locations.

A few simple steps can significantly reduce the risk:

✔️ Keep tanks visible, locate them where they can be seen from buildings or offices
✔️ Restrict access, secure gates and limit entry points to storage areas
✔️ Use accredited locks and anti-siphoning devices
✔️ Install alarms or remote fuel monitoring systems
✔️ Consider CCTV perimeter protection or intrusion detection for higher-risk sites

Fuel is a valuable asset and increasingly a target for opportunistic theft. Taking proactive security measures now can prevent significant loss and disruption later.

If your site stores fuel, it may be worth reviewing the current security arrangements or please reach out to Walton Secure for a site survey.

Another example of what great teamwork and customer focus looks like…

Late Wednesday afternoon we received a request for support in an already chockablock week…

By Thursday the team were already deep into preparation, programming systems, updating the AI analytics, and ensuring the towers were fully configured and ready for deployment.

This morning at 04:00, CEO Craig S Walton and Commercial Director Richie Nicoll (yes it must be busy when ‘the suits’ have their work clothes on!) were on the road heading south with four Walton Secure towers ready to go live for said client.

For us, this is what the job is about.
Not just building great technology, but delivering it with the speed, professionalism and attitude our clients expect.

Whether it’s a complex off-grid solar deployment or a rapid response requirement, the mindset across the Walton Secure team is always the same:

Be responsive. Be prepared. Be the best at what we do.

Proud of the team for the effort that goes in behind the scenes to make these deployments happen.

It’s not just the technology that clients remember. Yes, the solution needs to work. Yes, the system needs to perform. But what really sticks with people is how the job is delivered. The professionalism of the engineers on site, the communication with the client, and the pride taken in getting things done properly.

People buy from people and it is quickly being forgotten in this AI consuming world, so it is important that 'our' people still deliver 'as people'

That’s why feedback like this means a lot. Huge credit to the Walton Secure installation team who continue to represent the business exactly how we expect.

Great technology matters. But great people delivering it matters more.

This little chap has been breaking the internet lately, clutching his cuddly monkey like it’s the only thing keeping the world in order.....

And that got me thinking…no matter how old we are, we all need to feel safe.

For some, that’s a childhood “sooky”.
For others, it’s a solid team around them.
For businesses, it’s knowing their sites, assets and people are properly protected.

At Walton Secure, we don’t provide teddy bears.

But we do provide the kind of reassurance that lets you sleep at night, whether that’s a construction site in the UK, infrastructure overseas, or remote assets powered entirely off-grid.

Security isn’t about fear. It’s about confidence.

And if we can make you feel as safe as having your own comfort blanket, we’re doing something right.

🎉 We are absolutely delighted to share some outstanding news. 🎉

Walton Secure’s Commercial Director, Richie Nicoll, has been shortlisted as a finalist for Role Model of the Year at the Scottish Veterans Awards 2026. 🏅!!!

The Role Model of the Year category recognises a military veteran who has successfully transitioned into civilian life, demonstrated exceptional leadership and achievement in business or community, and actively inspires other service leavers by showing what is possible beyond uniform.
This recognition is particularly meaningful because it reflects not only professional success, but sustained commitment to service, mentorship and community impact.

Richie’s journey from military service into senior commercial leadership has always been grounded in values, resilience and accountability. Alongside leading strategic growth and partnerships at Walton Secure, Richie has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to place-based leadership within Dumfries & Galloway.

As the inaugural Chair of the Dumfries Town Board, Richie played a pivotal role in the shaping and overseeing of the UK Government-backed £20m regeneration programme aligned to the Levelling Up agenda and long-term regional investment strategies. Richie worked in partnership with local authority, business leaders, community groups and national stakeholders, where he helped steer funding governance, strategic priorities and accountability frameworks designed to strengthen economic resilience and community wellbeing across the region.

In parallel, Richie continues to support the veteran community directly, currently heading up the Dumfries Veterans “NAAFI Break”, a grassroots initiative focused on connection, support and camaraderie for former service personnel. It is this combination of executive leadership and community service that truly defines the spirit of this award.

Being shortlisted for this category recognises not just individual achievement, but the wider impact of veteran leadership in business, regeneration and civic life. We extend huge congratulations to Richie and to all the other exceptional finalists who continue to make a difference across Scotland.

We look forward to celebrating the awards ceremony and, most importantly, the remarkable contributions veterans are making to communities, enterprise and public life throughout the country.
