I’m curious to know how many people have found out how to earn ‘royalty’ income every month to pay their bills just like pop stars and authors.

So here you are at 55 years of age and due to a variety of different paths you have taken over your working years you now realise you do not have a retirement income to look forward to where others are planning their pension.

Your next question is … how can I afford my retirement years if I have not got enough monthly income to live off or do I take up a part time job to make ends meet?

It is a dilemma.

Life is short.

Before we know it, we have left behind our reckless years as a teenager then we experience our formative years as a young and ambitious adult.

With all the arguments arising recently about a variety of issues, many people are missing a bigger challenge that gets bigger as your life moves forward.

Today there are fewer Job vacancies
There are fewer job promotions
There are fewer pay rises
The cost-of-living crisis continues unabated
For homeowners with mortgages, mortgage rates will be higher for much longer.

Most importantly is the pensions crisis. This will affect tens of millions of people in the years to come.

When you are younger you don’t consider the implications of retirement but unless you make provision for it you could be in serious financial trouble depending on your circumstances.

The average pension pot in the UK is £57,000. This provides a monthly pension of £250 for retirement plus a state pension.

Will you be able to afford to retire even if you have poorer levels of health?

If you were given the opportunity at whatever age you currently are to build an income either part-time or full-time, which would enable you to enjoy a full retirement with proper financial support, would you be willing to grasp that opportunity with both hands?

No-one knows what is going to happen to pensions in the future so rather than wait to see what will happen why don’t you make it happen yourself on your own terms.

You don’t have to get involved.

This opportunity has been around a while, and it continues to be available.

You could just scroll on and carry on as you are.
No problem.

For all those domestic energy consumers who are concerned about the rising prices on their energy bills.

Have you had a review done of your current bills to ensure that you are getting a good deal?

If you are not setting up a fixed tariff, then you could find your bills increasing faster than you would like.

Variable tariffs will move sharply upwards very shortly once the energy prices filter through the energy industry.

A fixed energy tariff will protect your unit prices from rising for the next 12 months.

Obviously, your bills will vary according to the energy consumption you are using.

Although the energy price cap will increase by a small margin on 1st April there is a prediction for much higher increases coming through the remainder of this year.

This is where consumers on a variable tariff will be compromised. Many consumers are still on variable tariffs and should act now.

I’m writing this post today as I know a few people have heard I have not been my usual healthy self. So I thought it would be a good idea to bring everyone up to date.

I was diagnosed a few months ago with atrial fibrillation which is effectively irregular heartbeat.

I saw my ECG graph yesterday and it made interesting viewing. There is no doubt things are not quite right. I’m a bit wonky!!!! Some would say I’ve always been like that!

This morning I attended the medical day case ward at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for a cardioversion procedure. This procedure is designed to shock the heart rhythm back to normal if drugs are unable to achieve this.

There is no guarantee that atrial fibrillation will not return. As I have found out many people have to live with this condition when all attempts to reset the heart rhythm have failed. So all is not lost if it does return.

The result of today’s experience is that after one charge my heart rate has returned to normal.

I am pleased to add that the cardiology department at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary did not use ‘Old Sparky’ as viewed in the photograph.

They were happy for me to bring my Halfords 6 in 1 car battery charger with me complete with leads. Worked a treat!!!

I am very grateful to the NHS and cardiology staff for the last two days and now I move forward.

What a buzz!
