Monday, quarter past two, and I've just realised I've had exactly one coffee.

Since 8:15 this morning I've done three client calls, cleared emails, sorted insurance remittances, issued invoices, rebooked a couple of cancelled appointments, and kept six diaries and inboxes moving. All before lunch.

And now I'm off to get my daughter to the opticians.

This is the bit people don't always picture when they think "VA." It's not just admin in the background — it's genuinely urgent, moving-parts work, delivered properly, while still being able to drop everything for the school run or a hospital appointment.

I get to do both. Do the work that matters for my clients, and still show up for my own family when it counts.
Today that's a stop at the local shop for lunch (regrettable jalapeno wrap included) and forty-five minutes to breathe before pickup.

Being a VA isn't always glamorous. But days like this remind me why I built it this way.

If your diary or inbox is starting to feel like this — overflowing, urgent, never quite caught up — hit me up. This is exactly the kind of thing I take off people's plates.

My Scottish blood loves a Highland cow. I truly believe that, if reincarnation is real, I’ll come back as a cow.

Calm. Sleepy. Content. Animals who love nothing more than eating and having the occasional frolic, just because. 😂

On Sunday, we had a rare family day out.

Most of my clients usually take their summer holidays, which means I’m covering things while they’re away. And honestly? I have absolutely no complaints. I take real pride in looking after their businesses while they switch off and enjoy some well-earned time away.

That’s why they outsource to me, right?

But it does mean that we don’t get away quite as much during the warmer months. And boy, oh boy, have they been warm!

So, we booked a day at a local farm, complete with a fairground, animals, mini golf, ice lollies and a maze.

The kids had an absolute blast, I somehow found myself on a rollercoaster, and I even managed to win at mini golf!

We finished the day with a lovely meal at Pesto in Desford, if anyone local fancies a recommendation.

A pretty perfect family day — and a good reminder that you don’t always need to go far to make some lovely memories.

Now, if anyone needs me, I’ll be over here pretending I’m Hamish. 🐮

One of the best things about being a VA? The flexibility. ☀️💻

It’s 36°C today, and my home office has officially become a no-go zone. 🥵

So instead of sitting at my desk melting, I’ve packed up my laptop, headed into town, grabbed an iced chai latte with oat milk and set myself up on a café terrace.

And whilst enjoying the sunshine, I’ve still managed to get through a pretty productive day…

✨ Reconciled insurance invoices
✨ Issued four quotations for a client
✨ Logged new jobs
✨ Managed four client inboxes
✨ Completed an inbox detox of 826 emails 😳
✨ Booked property viewings for a lettings agency
✨ Chased outstanding payments
✨ Sent welcome emails to new patients attending appointments over the next 48 hours
✨ And even written some social media content

All from a café in the middle of town. ☕️

This is exactly why I love what I do.

Being a Virtual Assistant means I can support multiple businesses across completely different industries, keep things moving behind the scenes, and get the work done without necessarily being tied to one desk, one office or one location.

Of course, being a VA isn't always iced lattes and working in the sunshine 😂 — there are plenty of busy, deadline-filled days too.

But having the freedom to decide where I work and how I structure my day?

That’s pretty special.

And ultimately, that flexibility is something I’m able to offer my clients too — reliable support that fits around their business, without the commitment of employing someone full-time.

Now… back to the iced chai. 😏☀️

I genuinely love what I do.

A lovely client came back to me this month. We've worked together on and off for a couple of years now, usually whenever she has a new idea, project or exciting goal she'd like to bring to life.

She knows I'm here whenever she needs me, and honestly, I always jump at the chance to work with her.

Not only is she an absolute pleasure to work with, she's incredibly talented at what she does.

Abi and her business partner, Caroline, help people overcome limiting beliefs, build confidence and create lasting change through neuroscience-based coaching and therapy.

This week, a surprise parcel landed on my doorstep. Inside was a signed copy of Abi's brand new book, 21 Days to a Better Brain, along with the sweetest note and bookmark.

It was such a thoughtful surprise and a lovely reminder that behind every email, every project and every task is a real relationship.

One of the things I love most about being a VA is building long-term relationships with incredible business owners, supporting them as they grow, evolve and bring new ideas to life.

Thank you, Abi. I can't wait to get stuck into your book. ❤️📚

Here I am, back on the rock I once called home.

It’s quite bizarre, really. I left Scotland in 2003 when I was 12. Then in 2018, I left the island to move to England and never really felt the need to come back. Our family holidays became Malta, Santorini, Cyprus… because after knowing this island like the back of my hand, I wanted to see more of the world.

But the truth is, it still feels like home.
Some great memories, and some not so great — but home all the same.

Where my heart lies.
Where I feel happiest.
By the beach, watching the sunset, with the sea air against my skin.

Mini M’s time here feels long lost now — she barely remembers it at all — but watching her swimming in the sea like the little fish she is reminds me that a piece of her heart belongs here too.

I’ll never move back. We’ve built a wonderful life in the UK, and I’ve built a successful business supporting incredible business owners. But it’s nice to be back.

And that’s the beauty of running a virtual business like mine — I can work from anywhere in the world while still helping tired, overworked business owners focus on what they do best.

If you're a sole trader, chances are you started your business because you're brilliant at something.

Maybe you're a therapist, a photographer, a consultant, or a tradesperson. You had a skill, a passion, and the drive to build something of your own.

What nobody warned you about was the admin.

The emails that pile up while you're with a client. The invoices that need chasing. The diary that somehow books itself into chaos. The social media that you know you should be posting on, but haven't touched in three weeks.

Sound familiar?

Read my short blog to find out which 5 tasks you should outsource to a Virtual Assistant.
