In support of IHF’s collaborative effort with UK Tram, we are looking forward to the next evolution of FOCUS+, a lightweight, wearable biometric monitor that detects fatigue and falling sleep resistance.

We are using EEG data as our ground truth, but the data can be noisy. The data quality is critical in determining the performance of our device, so we meticulously parse all EEG data and filter out noise caused by poorly fitted sensors and movement artifacts to leave us with the highest quality of ground truth.

This figure demonstrates noise in some of the EEG sensors. We use a mixture of automated and manual filtering techniques to improve data quality.

A perfect example of a human-first approach comes from Jeff Lawson, CEO of Twilio. Talking to the BBC about why they lost Uber as a client, he said:

"We found out that the real problem was - we had under-staffed sales. The Uber account had been growing very quickly, but the salesperson did not have enough time to take care of the client properly."

"If we had had a bigger sales team, they would have spoken to Uber much more often and would have picked up on their problems with our service," he adds.
