Behind the scenes: what a weekly website maintenance check actually involves.

Every week, for each site on a care plan, we:
- take a fresh backup before touching anything
- run WordPress core, plugin and theme updates
- compare pages before and after to catch anything that has shifted
- check the site is up, secure and loading properly

None of it is glamorous. But it is the reason most of our clients never have to think about updates, and never get the 2am call that their site has gone down.

Would you spot it if your website was quietly hacked?

Most small business sites aren't targeted personally. Automated bots scan thousands of WordPress sites a day looking for easy wins, and outdated plugins and weak logins are the usual way in.

Three security checks worth doing this week:
- Update WordPress, your theme and plugins, and delete any plugin you no longer use.
- Use strong, unique passwords and turn on two-factor login for every admin account.
- Check your SSL certificate is valid and that you have recent backups you've actually tested restoring.

Quick website tip for Monday: test your site on your phone, not just your computer.

Most visitors will see it on a small screen first. Take two minutes and check:

- Can you read the text without zooming?
- Can you tap the buttons and menu easily?
- Does your phone number or contact form take one tap to reach?

If any of those feel awkward, your visitors feel it too, and most will not tell you. They just leave.

Friday morning, coffee in hand, and a quick thought from me.

The most common thing I hear from small business owners is not "my website looks wrong". It is "I just hope it is still working". That worry sits quietly in the background of the week.

So a big part of what we do is simply taking that worry away. Keeping things updated, backed up and monitored, and being a real person you can message when something looks off.

Ever wonder what actually happens after your website goes live?
