Ever wondered who's actually behind your website support? At Nimble Digital, it's the same hands from first call to ongoing care - no handovers, no call centre, no guessing who's replying to your email.

We started life in 2019 as WP Support & Consulting, working directly with Edinburgh businesses on their WordPress sites. In 2023 we became Nimble Digital - same team, same personal approach, sharper focus on what actually matters: does your site load fast, work properly, and help people find and reach you?

That's the question we ask about every site we touch, whether we're building it from scratch or keeping an existing one running smoothly.

Why it matters for you:
- Direct contact with the person doing the work, not a ticket queue
- Decisions made with your business in mind, not a generic checklist
- A support plan that grows with you, not a one-size-fits-all package

If your website isn't working as hard as you are, let's have a conversation.

When did you last test your own contact form?

It is the quietest way a website fails. Nothing looks broken, the page loads fine, the form says thank you. The enquiries just stop arriving and nobody notices for weeks.

Three things worth checking this afternoon:

Send yourself a test enquiry, from your phone, on mobile data rather than the office wifi. Fill it in like a customer would.

Check where it lands. Site emails often end up in spam or a junk filter because they are sent from the hosting server rather than your own mail provider. Sending them properly through your mail account fixes most of it.

Check who receives it. Notification addresses have a habit of pointing at an old inbox, a staff member who has left, or one person who is on holiday.

While you are there, add a second recipient and keep a copy of every enquiry stored in the site itself, so a lost email never means a lost lead.

It takes five minutes and it is the cheapest marketing win available to most businesses.

Is your website getting the regular attention it needs to stay healthy?

A website isn't a "set it and forget it" project. It needs consistent care to keep running smoothly, securely and quickly. A few maintenance habits worth building into your routine:

Update WordPress core, themes and plugins regularly. Outdated software is one of the easiest ways in for hackers.

Back up your site automatically, not just when you remember to.

Check uptime and page speed periodically. Small issues are much cheaper to fix than big ones.

If your site has been left ticking along untouched for a while, it's worth a health check. Our WordPress care plans handle updates, backups, uptime monitoring and technical checks so nothing slips through the cracks.

This or that, be honest.

A website that looks stunning, full of animation and clever bits, but takes a few seconds to appear on a phone.

Or a plain one that loads the instant you tap it.

Most people say the first one when they are choosing a designer, and behave like the second one when they are the visitor. We all do it. Nobody has ever waited on a slow page and thought, worth it for the animation.

The honest answer is that you can have both, but only if speed is the thing you protect. Design around it and the site stays quick. Bolt it on at the end and something has to go.

Which one are you? Left or right in the comments.

Ever wondered what actually happens on a website care plan?

Each week we work through the same routine on every site we look after: take a fresh backup, apply WordPress core, theme and plugin updates, then check the pages still look and behave the way they should afterwards. Anything that looks off gets rolled back and investigated rather than left for the client to spot.

It is unglamorous work. It is also the reason most of our clients never have to think about their website at all.

Something we notice working with small businesses across Edinburgh: the best ones are rarely the loudest online.

They are the cafe on the corner that remembers your order, the joiner who turns up when he says he will, the shop that has been on the same street for twenty years. Word of mouth carries them, and it carries them well.

The gap usually shows up when someone new hears the recommendation and goes looking. If the website is out of date, slow on a phone, or the opening hours on Google are wrong, that warm recommendation quietly cools off before anyone gets in touch.

Your website does not need to sell for you. It needs to back up what people are already saying about you.

So a small ask: drop the name of an Edinburgh business you rate in the comments. No catch, no pitch. Local businesses do better when people point at each other.

Is your website locked up tight, or leaving the door open for hackers?

Website security isn't a one-off job, it's an ongoing habit. Three things every Edinburgh business owner should check today:

SSL certificate: that little padlock in the browser bar isn't just for show. It encrypts data between your site and your visitors, and Google penalises sites without one in search rankings.

Keep everything updated: WordPress core, themes and plugins all get security patches. Skipping updates is like leaving a window unlocked.

Strong passwords and 2FA: weak logins are still one of the most common ways sites get compromised. A password manager and two-factor authentication go a long way.

At Nimble Digital, security monitoring is built into every website management plan we run, so problems get caught before they become disasters.

Most weeks, the part of this job I enjoy most has nothing to do with code.

It is the phone call from someone who has been quietly worrying about their website for months. They are not sure who built it, they cannot get into it, and they have half convinced themselves the whole thing needs starting again. Usually it does not.

I have been doing this long enough to know that the technical fix is rarely the hard bit. The hard bit is that a website sits right next to how someone feels about their own business, and when it is not working, that weighs on people more than they let on.

So when we take a site on, the first thing I am really trying to do is take it off someone's list of things to worry about. Everything after that is just the work.

If your website is one of those nagging jobs you keep pushing to next month, it is usually a shorter conversation than you think.

Want more of the right people finding your business online? Here's what actually moves the needle for local SEO:

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile with accurate hours, photos and services. This is often the first thing potential customers see.

2. Use the exact words your customers search for. "Plumber Edinburgh" beats generic terms like "quality service" every time. Our guide on keyword research shows how to find them without expensive tools.

3. Get listed consistently. Same name, address and phone number everywhere: directories, social profiles and your own site.

4. Ask happy customers for reviews. They build trust and help your ranking.

None of this needs a huge budget, just consistency. Small, regular steps beat one big push and then nothing.

Read our beginner's guide to keyword research on the blog, or get in touch if you'd like a hand with your local SEO.
