From chimneys to owl boxes , air bricks to porches… honeybees don’t really care where they cause you an inconvenience! 😅🐝
It’s been a busy week relocating honeybees this week and a common question we are regularly asked is…
“why can’t the honeybees stay? “
Usually when a customer phones us they have lived with the bees for maybe a season or two, then the reality of endless swarming and the odd few stings starts to surface and the awe inspiring marvel slowly turns into a daily nuisance.
We ensure a very ethical and humane removal of the honeybees and allow them to live out the rest of their short lives on one of our apiaries in the area.
It is so important to report a swarm of honeybees to a local beekeeper to ensure they are collected and managed before they fly off to find a new home ! An unmanaged feral colony can transmit serval pests and diseases which are preventable under the care of a beekeeper. Not only, they could end up in cavity walls and chimneys leaving the homeowner with an unfortunate job ahead!
Finally, contrary to popular belief, honeybees are not under any threat of dying out. They are classified as farmed livestock and are actually at an all time global high. Unfortunately in many areas of the world they are now heading towards an overpopulation which can throw the ecosystem out of balance, putting additional stress on native bumble bees and local pollinators.
