All things going well the local protection level in most of mainland Scotland will shortly move to Level 1. For the first time in more than a year community music groups like brass bands, wind bands and orchestras will be allowed to meet up again to play indoors. We can begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel but staying safe and protecting those around us is as important now it ever was.

For the time being banding is going to look very different to what we’re used to and it’s important to get it right. A COVID-19 risk assessment is the first step in getting players back in the band room and protecting them when they get there. Are you ready for the return? Let us help you. Get in touch for some free advice and let us know how we can help you play in safety.

Health and safety laws apply to all businesses regardless of size. If you’re self employed or run a small, medium or large company you’re responsible for the health and safety of anyone in your workplace or anyone who could be affected by your work. That could be your employees, contractors, customers or members of the public.

“I’ve always done it this way and no one’s been hurt”

“It’s always been like that and never been a problem”

If there’s a Regulation for it, then it’s likely somebody has gotten hurt doing it that way or it has been a problem somewhere.

Do you know what the Regulations are and how they affect your business? Do you know what you need to do? Doing things safely doesn’t have to be complicated, time consuming or costly.

We can provide the advice and support you need to protect your business and the people around you. Let us know how we can help you work in safety.

Exposure to vibration at work is a hazard for employees in a lot of occupations. It comes from using powered work equipment or by holding materials being processed by machines. When this is a regular part a person’s job it can permanently damage their health. There were over 300 new claims for Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in 2018. Added to the fines from prosecutions the costs to businesses from vibration related injuries can be in the hundreds of thousands. Do you know what you need to do to make sure your employees and your business are protected from these risks? Drop us a line and let us know how we can help you work in safety.

A distribution company was recently fined over £500k after an employee was hit by a forklift truck. The severity of the injuries left him unable to work for several months. The company will also be open to claims for compensation.

Forklifts are a common sight in many workplaces. This incident, like many others, could easily have been avoided. A risk assessment had been done but it failed to identify some straightforward control measures; measures that would have prevented this from happening and protected the employee from harm.

Make sure your risk assessments aren’t going to let you down. Get in touch and let us know how we can help you work in safety.
