The Highdown Hare

The Highdown Hare Hi. I'm the Highdown Hare. Here to tell you about an exciting art project that's happening throughout 2026 and '27. I can't hang around long. Its origins.

The hound will quickly catch my scent again. Take a look through the page and I'll be back soon to tell you more. I'm here to talk about an art project that's happening in 2026 and '27. It's about the Highdown Goblet - an ancient Egyptian artifact found more than 100 years ago. With help from local students, artists and archaeologists, Jane Couldrey is going to tell the story behind this mysteriou

s goblet. There's a lot to explore. Its journey to Highdown. How it was discovered. What it tells us about life in ancient Egypt. And what it can tell us about our lives now. It's exciting - we already have a lot to talk about. I can't hang around long, though. The hound will soon catch my scent again, so I'd best be off. I'll be back soon to tell you more.

Some say I'm a shapeshifter.

That I'm a witch in disguise. Or maybe her familiar.

What do you think?

Have you ever stopped to wonder how an ancient Egyptian Goblet found its way to Highdown?

Or even how it was made in the first place?

I hear they have some answers in Worthing Museum.

The rest of the story is waiting to be discovered.

That's part of Jane's project. So I hear.

As for me, I don't have time to stop and wonder. Not with that hound on my tail.

Speaking of which... I hear her nearby. See you again soon.

My image is everywhere.

You'll find me in art throughout history.

I'm even etched into the Highdown Goblet - a beautiful 4th century Egyptian artifact in Worthing Museum.

I think I gave that hound the slip. Hopefully thrown her off with a false trail. Still, won't have long.

Happy solstice. The shortest day of the year. The start of winter. When it really gets chilly up here at Highdown.

I'm lying low for a while. Seeking shelter in the woodland. Waiting for some warmer weather.

Meanwhile, Jane's busy with the Highdown Goblet project. Planning workshops for the spring. Getting ready to put out a call for artwork, when Worthing Museum opens up again.

There's a lot to tell you, but I can hear the hound coming. She's always nearby. I'll be back soon with some more updates. Until then, solstice blessings.
