🧩I was honoured to be invited by Vee Bird, MDG to share a little of my own story in this blog.

As a parent, former primary teacher and a dyslexia specialist, I’ve seen first-hand how important early identification of dyslexia is.

With my own son, the signs were there long before school - delayed speech across two languages, word-finding difficulties, irregular spelling, struggles with sequencing and a love of audiobooks over print.

Advocating for him and protecting his self-esteem was one of the toughest but most important parts of our journey. Now, as an adult, he’s thriving - proof that dyslexia, when understood and supported early, can be a source of strength.

Primary phonics and literacy teachers who tutor (or plan to)!

Here's one top tip for tutors that has worked incredibly well for us:

✅️offer a paid 2 lesson trial on your website

It's 

💥an easy yes for parents both in terms of price and no long-term commitment 

💥lesson 1 is an assessment (we have that ready for you) so parents get get detailed information on where their child is at, plus an excellent experience of seeing the value you provide

💥one lesson before they decide to continue, especially if they are skeptical about online or groups, and want to try it first

Here’s our secret - use a Google form so you get the info you need, and add the link to pay in the confirmation message. 

The added bonus - it will save you a lot of "discovery" calls. 

You will get clients who have done due diligence and are serious about working wth you. 

And make those trial lessons paid - your expertise is too valuable to give away for free!

Connect is an 8-week group programme helping mid-career primary English teachers to tutor professionally.  

It's open for continuous enrolment and you'll join a small team supporting you plus a community of teachers turned tutors on the same journey as you.

We meet weekly in live group calls based around your questions, so you get hands-on help with whatever you need. Our WhatsApp group is there 24/7 for your voicenotes and questions. 

You get access to our online learning platform for bite-size video training with fillable, interactive booklets where you design your business to suit your needs. Plan for 2-3 hours' work a week.

Everyone who is serious about their success is working with someone who is supporting them.

Here's me in .cz 's mastermind with some other amazing language-business women.

I love that we can bring whatever question to the group and others will explain exactly what they do and what worked for them (or didn't).

It's also a place to be in great company - being in business, especially online, can be a bit of a lonely bubble.

And it's a place to share the not-so-shiny stuff that goes on behind the scenes because - guess what? - social media is a 99.9% highlight reel. Who knew?! 😅

We're talking more about content and planning in December to set us up for 2025 and we'll be making sure we know

1️⃣key dates, events and timelines relevant to our audience

2️⃣exactly who we are talking to, to hook them in

3️⃣exactly what we want to communicate, with an understanding of where our audience is right now

4️⃣calling them to action, so they don't just stroll on by and can easily get more
